Xbox’s Twitch profile was hacked alongside those belonging to Playstation and the eSports League (ESL). The third party posted unauthorised messages and offensive language to the channels.

Highlights from their previous broadcasts were altered and given different titles and descriptions. The messages included false game announcements for Fallout and Gears of War. There were also references to Square Enix’s Rise of the Tomb Raider and its timed exclusivity on the Xbox One. The third party wrote “Sorry guys but they rose the money bags,” and “sorry bout tomb raider bb”. Homophobic and racist slurs were also included in the messages.

Talking to Polygon, a Twitch representative said that the company thinks that the accounts were compromised at Gamescom, by someone who managed to get access to already logged-in computers there.

A Twitch representative said in an email that, “We’re deleting the offensive VODs as soon as we find them and are alerting individual teams at the venue.” They also said that, “As a precautionary measure, we temporarily removed highlights and past broadcasts for those channels since it’s in the early hours of the morning in Cologne.”
