12 Days of XBLA Grand Prize Winner Announced!

The 12 Days of XBLA was an amazing success and we hope to bring you all more contests like this in the years to come. Thanks to all of our awesome community members for participating with over 1700 entries in a twelve day span, that’s quite an impressive turnout. And a huge thanks to the fine people at Microsoft and all the developers/publishers that donated all the prizes. Without them, none of this would be possible.

With that said, let’s get to the moment we have all been waiting for. After all the dust settled and we ran our random number generator for one last time in 2011, we are now proud to announce @OnyxPrimal as the winner of the Grand Prize worth over $150! Congratulations, you have won a copy of the following XBLA games: Read More

XBLAFans 2011 Game of the Year awards

2010 was a pretty great year for XBLA games. It’s hard to think it could be topped. Yet here we are at the end of 2011 with a crop of games that are arguably even better than last year. XBLA has continued to grow throughout 2011 and the diversity of games continues to rise.

We saw the year kick off with unique games like ilomilo, zeit2, and Stacking and it ends with impressive titles like Dungeon Defenders, Joe Danger: Special Edition and Trine 2. We’ve come a long way since the days of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved.

As a result this year’s XBLAFans Game of the Year awards were even more hotly contested than last year, with a few of the categories coming down to just a couple of votes. The list of nominees for the grand prize was almost excessive and could easily have gone into double digits. So without further ado, we are proud to present the second annual XBLAFans Game of the Year awards. Read More

Contest: 12 Days of XBLA (Day 3)

On day three of our 12 Days of XBLA promotion we will be giving out Section 8: Prejudice, an amazing FPS that has built one of the largest online communities for any XBLA game to date. Since April, TimeGate Studios has delivered several updates, patches and DLC packs continuously adding exactly what the fans want. So our question for all of you is:

What game mode would you like to see added next and why would it work in the Section 8: Prejudice world?

And while we’re talking about DLC, why don’t we sweeten the deal a little. Each copy of Section 8: Prejudice that we give out will also come with a copy of the Frontier Map Pack game add-on. And don’t forget to follow us on Twitter for even more chances to win great games!

The winner of yesterday’s contest is: Elegiac_Soul (@Myzery_Clown) – You have won a copy of Orcs Must Die! We will be in touch with you today on Twitter!

XBLA games you can’t pass on the cheap: Volume 1

By  •  Features

In the past few years we’ve often had people ask us what Xbox Live Arcade games are worth the money, but unlike us they usually don’t shell out a lot on XBLA games each year. It makes sense, after all 1200 MSP every month or so adds up in the end. Every site has those “you should buy it” lists where games like Limbo, Braid, Castle Crashers, Bastion, and Trials HD sit, but sometimes with other games you’re still not convinced. That being said here’s list of games you shouldn’t pass up on a sale. After all, we’re all on a budget. So if you’re one of those that won’t buy it at retail price no matter how good the reviews are, take a look at this list for the best titles you can find on sale.

XBLAFancast Episode 32 – Stick it in

By  •  Podcast

Back to a three man show this week as I am joined by John Carson and Jon Cole. It’s been a fairly slow news week so we get through the weeks stories fairly quickly and move swiftly onto talking about what we’ve been playing. We get a nice mix of XBLA games, including Burnout Crash, Section 8 Prejudice and Clash of Heroes, before talking a whole lot of mess about the Battlefield 3 beta.

I am in the middle of moving house at the moment so it’s a fairly quick and dirty edit to the show this week, apologies if it sounds a bit rougher than usual.

Please subscribe, comment, review the podcast on iTunes and tell your friends! We appreciate it! Check us out on twitter (@XBLAFans) where you can win codes for games, give us feedback or just ask a question.
