Angry Birds HD to be published by Activision for consoles

A long time ago, in a news post far, far away, Rovio announced that Angry Birds would be heading to XBLA. We thought that was all forgotten about and moved on, however The Escapist Magazine spotted a clue at E3 suggesting that the game was still coming to consoles and being published by Activision:

“Somewhere between an ad for Call of Duty and some footage of The Amazing Spiderman we caught sight of an eerily familiar, tiny red bird soaring kamikaze-style into the Activision logo’s giant A.”

After corning an Activision spokesperson they received confirmation that the game is still in the works:

“We’ll have some news for you in about two weeks,” Activision said. “Wait until you see Angry Birds on consoles in HD.”

The original has been downloaded over a billion times, though how many of those are still interested in a console version remains to be seen. There’s a good chance the game will come with Kinect support when it does finally land on XBLA, perhaps offering players something a little different.

Angry Birds coming with Kinect support on XBLA?

In November of 2010 Rovio announced that their smash hit Angry Birds would be coming to Xbox Live Arcade. Now there may be a possibility of Kinect support coming as well.  Speaking via their official Twitter account, Rovio replied to an inquiry as to whether they would be supporting Kinect;  “You might just get what you ask for”. Will players be able to pull back their imaginary catapults to fire birds away? Stay tuned for news as it develops.

Confirmed: Angry Birds coming to XBLA

Well, it’s official: The wildly popular game Angry Birds is officially coming to just about every platform, including XBLA.

Pocket Gamer reports that Rovio CEO Peter Vesterbacka confirmed the news during a speech at the first ever Social Gaming Summit in London this week, stating that Angry Birds will be coming to XBLA, PSN and Wii “for starters.” While Vesterbacka ruled out Angry Birds 2, the report did indicate that he hinted at a “surprise” iteration of the game that might feature the pigs’ side of the story.

Of course no price, release date or any idea of how the game would control was revealed, so stay tuned for these details when they become available.
