Last year, we posted a list of the top 10 XBLA soundtracks and while it’s a great list, there’s been a great deal of omissions and new tunes in the past year. Some of them have become iconic and immediately hummable or in some cases, incredibly dance-y. So we’re bringing you another 10 to add to the list, in no particular order since they’re all winners.

The 12 Days of XBLA was an amazing success and we hope to bring you all more contests like this in the years to come. Thanks to all of our awesome community members for participating with over 1700 entries in a twelve day span, that’s quite an impressive turnout. And a huge thanks to the fine people at Microsoft and all the developers/publishers that donated all the prizes. Without them, none of this would be possible.
With that said, let’s get to the moment we have all been waiting for. After all the dust settled and we ran our random number generator for one last time in 2011, we are now proud to announce @OnyxPrimal as the winner of the Grand Prize worth over $150! Congratulations, you have won a copy of the following XBLA games: Read the rest of this entry »
2010 was a pretty great year for XBLA games. It’s hard to think it could be topped. Yet here we are at the end of 2011 with a crop of games that are arguably even better than last year. XBLA has continued to grow throughout 2011 and the diversity of games continues to rise.
We saw the year kick off with unique games like ilomilo, zeit2, and Stacking and it ends with impressive titles like Dungeon Defenders, Joe Danger: Special Edition and Trine 2. We’ve come a long way since the days of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved.
As a result this year’s XBLAFans Game of the Year awards were even more hotly contested than last year, with a few of the categories coming down to just a couple of votes. The list of nominees for the grand prize was almost excessive and could easily have gone into double digits. So without further ado, we are proud to present the second annual XBLAFans Game of the Year awards. Read the rest of this entry »
Earlier this week PlayXBLA announced that they will be hosting a series of community playdates for their favourite XBLA games. Every Monday the PlayXBLA crew will select an XBLA game to highlight and offer up some fan participation either in the form of multiplayer events or if the game is single player, then a party chat session during gameplay. To join in the fun, head over to the PlayXBLA blog every Thursday where they will post full details and the gamertag which will be hosting the party room. The first event was Orc Must Die!, but we missed it…doh! However the rest of the line up so far looks great:
Let us know if you manage to take part and remember to say hi if you bump into any XBLAFans staff!
This week on XBLA there are two new games and a few new DLC packs. Zooming up first is the new release Joe Danger: Special Edition. It’s a re-release of the original (PSN) with a few new spices added, including an entire set of challenging new levels called the laboratory, all for a mere 1200 MSP. Next in line is that speedy little blue hedgehog taking us even further back in time with Sonic CD. This nostalgic adventure marks the first time we met Metal Sonic and can be yours for just 400 MSP.
Also rolling our way is the new Pinball FX 2 table pack Vengeance and Virtue for 800 MSP. Included are four new tables: Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Thor and X-Men. Charging in behind that is Orcs Must Die!: Lost Adventures for 320 MSP which adds 50 new skulls, two new enemies and five new trap choices. Magic the Gathering: 2012 gets Deck Expansion Pack 2 which offers two new decks and several new cards for the existing decks. It runs a reasonable 240 MSP. Not to mention, we got some Bastion DLC called The Stranger’s Dream which includes a new narrated sequence and two gameplay modes, all for 80 MSP. In the holiday spirit you can also get the new Fruit Ninja: Holiday Pack for free, so make sure to get your points ready and set some time aside for this mass of new content to play.
For the second day in the 12 Days of XBLA promotion, we bring to you Orcs Must Die! In this defense style game you must use your time, money and whits wisely if you want a chance to survive the Orc onslaught. The game is already filled with tons of amazing traps that attack from every angle. So our question for all of you is:
If you were to make your own trap, what would it be called and how would it work?
Let us know your answer in the comment section below and one winner will be picked randomly from all contestants. And don’t forget to follow us on Twitter for even more chances to win great games!
The winner of yesterday’s contest is: Yianna Paris (@mstoxique) – You have won a copy of Mercury Hg. We will be in touch with you today on Twitter!
