House Party games get release dates and prices

After long deliberation on who’s coming to the party first, we finally have details from prices to release dates on the upcoming House Party promotion, starting February 15.

First up, we have Warp from Trapdoor and EA which combines platforming and stealth in order to escape from a research facility, that’ll set you back 800 MSP. Next, we have the long-awaited side-story with Alan Wake entitled Alan Wake’s American Nightmare from Remedy and Microsoft releasing on February 22 at 1200 MSP. If you’re looking to shoot more people, then on February 29 you’ll be able to jump real high and shoot in first-person with Nexuiz from THQ and IllFonic which will cost you 800 MSP. Lastly, the long-delayed post-apocalpytic but finally coming out on digital shelves March 7 is I Am Alive from Ubisoft at 1200 MSP.

We also must mention that  the previously reported incentive mysteriously disappeared, but it has since re-appeared. So for buying all the House Party games between February 15 – March 13, you’ll receive 800 MSP for free. Which will come in handy if you’ve seen all the other titles in February. Stick to XBLAFans if you want to get down with this House Party.

Microsoft quietly bolsters Xbox Live security

Microsoft, in an attempt to prevent Xbox Live accounts from being compromised, has apparently added more rigorous security standards to Xbox.com, according to a report emanating from Eurogamer. Certain malicious individuals were previously able to gain access to other users’ XBL accounts by using what is known as a “brute-force method.” The site was allowing said parties to infinitely attempt Windows Live ID passwords — a process that was automated by use of a script.

NewsCorp content coming to Xbox Live

While Microsoft’s CES keynote focused mostly on sales numbers and non-Xbox news, we did get a couple gems out of it. One of the most interesting tidbits is the news that a whole slew of News Corp properties are coming to Xbox Live, including Fox News, Fox shows, IGN (well, more IGN), and The Wall Street Journal. Shows coming include Family Guy, Glee, House, New Girl, Bones, Fringe, and The Simpsons, among others. This is definitely a step in the right direction for giving Xbox dominance as the all-in-one media box in the living room, but we’ll have to see if Microsoft can keep making major deals like this one in order to win the battle once and for all.

A crisp 800 MSP to anyone who buys all the House Party games

So it’s not a free game like last year’s Summer of Arcade but we’ll take free points any day of the week. Microsoft has slowly been rolling out the carpet for the 2012 House Party including games like Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, I Am Alive, Nexuiz and Warp. Just like last year, they’re running an incentive for purchasing all the games this year and it’s 800 MSP to buy more games! It’s a nice gesture from Microsoft who just wants to see us get down and party like a literal house party. If you’re currently cruising at CES, Microsoft is showing off all the House Party titles and you’ll be getting your invite on February 15. Shout out to @lifelower for letting us know.

XBLA House Party begins February 15

Larry Hryb aka Major Nelson, has let loose further details on the 2012 leg of Microsoft’s annual House Party event. This year’s festivities kick off on February 15 and pan out across the following four weeks. As previously reported, the roster of games includes a side-story to the self-proclaimed psychological action thriller Alan Wake with Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, arena-based first person shooter Nexuiz, puzzle stealth action game Warp and the once considered dead I Am Alive. As of yet there has been no confirmation on prices or the order in which the games will appear during the event. If you happen to be at CES you can play all of the House Party games at the Microsoft booth, otherwise you’ll have to wait with the rest of us until February 15.

XBLIG gets an upgrade

Hot on the heels of our report on the Indie Games marketplace, Microsoft has decided that it’s high time to throw those guys a bone. In a post titled “Happy New Year, Xbox LIVE Indie Games!”, the XNA Game Studio Team Blog has outlined some exciting changes have been made to the App Hub and Market. First of all, game package size is being bumped up from 150MB to 500MB, which is a massive increase. In addition, up until now games over 50MB had to cost at least 240 MSP. Now any game up to 150MB will be able to be priced at the low, low cost of 80 MSP. Finally, the number of titles that a single developer can put on the market has now jumped from 10 to 20.

The response on the forums from developers seems to be mixed. While some are excited by the increase in games allowed from a developer, others argue that this will just result in more shovelware. The general consensus seems to be that while these are positive changes, they are not the things that matter most to developers, such as online leaderboards. It’ll be interesting to see what else changes in the coming year as more and more people discover the Indie Games Marketplace.
