Iron Brigade reduced to 800 MSP

If you haven’t managed to pick up our 2011 Game of the Year Iron Brigade formerly Trenched, now would be a great time. On the marketplace, the game’s price has been reduced from 1200 to 800 MSP, a great value for such a stellar title from the folks at Double Fine. You could even throw in Rise of the Martian Bear for the original price of the game! The reason for the reduction is for an upcoming Steam version coming out on August 13, so they decided to reduce the XBLA version. There’s even promise of new content coming but who knows when that’s coming or if they’re pretty busy with The Cave but we’ll keep you up to date but grab this deal if you haven’t already picked the game up!

Tim Schafer hints at more new Iron Brigade content

The folks over at FrontTowardsGamer.Com recently spoke with Tim Schafer of Double Fine Productions and published the conversation as part of their podcast. In the interview around the 1 hour and 18 minute mark, Tim mentions that more Iron Brigade content is on the way and that listeners should “stay tuned”. What could this new content be? Could it be something as major as new campaign content, or new survival mode maps? Could it possibly even be snazzy new salutes? We’re not sure what Tim and the gang are working on, but we’re excited that more Iron Brigade may be on the way.

Originally released under the name Trenched last summer, a lawsuit forced Microsoft and Double Fine to change the name of their action packed, mech centric, tower defense title to Iron Brigade. Since the name change, an expansion, Rise of the Martian Bear was released, adding several more hours of single-player campaign content as well as an all new survival mode. If you haven’t yet added the game to your collection, maybe you should take note that Iron Brigade was the recipient of our very own Game of the Year award in 2011.

XBLA Fans Monthly Roundup (February 2012)

We totally missed January, but the Monthly Recap is back for February! Yaaay. There’s an immense amount of news this month because for some reason February is XBLA month. There’s roughly a million game announcements and DLC as well. I suggest hitting CTRL + F and searching for the copious news about your favorite game. Or games. Or just read all the news, because that’s a good idea.

Beyond the “things that happened”, there’s also several Friday Top Fives and Most Wanted’s this month as we continue to beef up our feature repertoire. Our chief feature, A Year In Review (2011) is definitely worth checking out for some insight into the fluctuations in XBLA cost versus review scores. Lastly, amongst the five podcasts is our Music Special which showcases some of the best XBLA soundtrack tunes since its inception.

Without further ado, welcome to February all over again! Continue reading “XBLA Fans Monthly Roundup (February 2012)” »

Double Fine offers Brutal Legend-themed items for Iron Brigade

Double Fine is offering Iron Brigade players an item pack featuring items based on its 2009 game Brutal Legend – and all they have to do is sign up for a newsletter.

The pack includes three items – a roadie jacket, a metal mullet and a flame paint-job for in-game trenches. In order to receive the pack, players must sign up for Double Fine’s Iron Brigade newsletter, free of charge. The Rise of the Martian Bear expansion pack is required to utilize the items.

Iron Brigade is a tower defense game which incorporates third-person shooter and role-playing elements. The game put players in control of a mech called a “trench,” and tasks them with defending a base against enemies called Monovisions. Released in June of last year, Brigade was the last of three downloadable titles Double Fine developed between 2010 and 2011, preceded by Costume Quest and Stacking. Rise of the Martian Bear released at the beginning of this month and added a new campaign, items and maps.

Brutal Legend was the studio’s follow-up to its cult Xbox hit Psychonauts. The game starred Jack Black as Eddie Riggs, a roadie who is transported to a mystical, heavy metal-themed world; once there, he discovers he may be the only one able to rescue humanity from the clutches of a glam rock tyrant. Gameplay is primarily action-based but features many real-time strategy elements as well. The game released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to mostly favorable reviews – Metacritic posts an overall score of 82.

Iron Brigade is available on Xbox Live for 1,200 MSP. The expansion pack, Rise of the Martian Bear, runs for 400 MSP. The game is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.
