Runner 2 trailer revealed, to be released tomorrow on XBLA

With over a year of delays behind it, Gaijin Games' Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien will be hitting the Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow, February 27. Priced at 1200 MSP, the sequel to Bit.Trip Runner will feature five new worlds with many levels and unlockable items and characters. This will be the first game in the series to be released on XBLA. The trailer for Runner 2 touts the colorful graphic scheme and unique music and rhythm platform style that made the first game popular. Players will primarily play as Commander Video, racing across maps, dodging obstacles and collecting points as they progress through each level.

The game will be released across all major platforms; however, according to Gaijin Games, there will be a few build differences. While each game will feature leaderboards and achievements, XBLA users may experience slower load times in comparison to players on the other platforms. However, Gaijin will be making attempts to speed up the game in a future update.

Runner2 pushing for January release

Gaijin Games confirmed at PAX this weekend that Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien (also known simply as Runner2) is aiming for a January 2013 release. The sequel to the indie hit BIT.TRIP RUNNER, Runner2 improves upon its predecessor with five new worlds, 100 new levels, and several new unlockables. Oh, and it looks pretty, too. This marks the first game in the BIT.TRIP series to come to the Xbox 360, and should prove to be a great way to spend those gifted Microsoft Points you'll undoubtedly get over the holidays.

Indie Mega Booth returns for PAX Prime with 30+ games

The Indie Mega Booth at PAX East this year held a ton of content for us. We had previews from everything from Charlie Murder to Runner2 to Super Time Force. They've announced the return of the booth for this year's PAX Prime with 29 developers and 30+ games. Developers like Ska Studios and Capybara have announced their return to the booth with more details still forthcoming. This was probably the best booth of PAX East this year and it'll most likely be the best booth at Prime this year too and XBLA Fans will be there soaking it all in.

Bit.Trip Presents: Runner 2 slides into early 2013

Gaijin Games' Bit.Trip series hasn't graced XBLA but the announcement a while back for Bit.Trip Presents: Runner 2 is causing fans to go back to one of the best installments in the series, Bit.Trip.Runner. It's a 2D endless runner where you are moving to the right with one wrong move making you start from the beginning. We were hoping it would hit XBLA by 2012 but sadly, this isn't the case.

The trailer above shows off some of the newer worlds and the new retro levels which look straight out of an SNES game. But by the end, it's revealed that the game will be hitting XBLA and other systems by early 2013. Kind of a vague date but it's a bummer considering my PAX East preview painted the game in a glorious light and stil looked great even if it was an early build. They'll have the latest build at PAX Prime this year and XBLA Fans will be there, jumping and dancing with Gaijin. If you love platforming and dancing for extra points, keep an eye on this promising title in 2013.

CommanderVideo shows his groove never left in Runner2

After that pre-alpha look at the upcoming platformer, Runner2, we finally have some more polished gameplay to show off. You'll notice from the gameplay details that CommanderVideo has gotten some serious dance moves to show, all which are a full beat long for extra points so use it wisely. The branching paths are also new as with the new collectibles such as keys for locked paths. His rainbow streak even becomes a cape! Gaijin Games will be showing the game at PAX East and we at XBLA Fans are excited to strap on our running shoes to play it.

Gaijin Games' Runner2 delayed until November

Just last week, Gaijin Games recently put up some pre-alpha footage of their upcoming platformer Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien, with some new details but don't expect it soon. Eurogamer reports that it'll be pushed back to November, possibly to coincide with the Wii U launch since the original Bit.Trip series began there. Gaijin Games' artist Mike Roush said this about the development:

"The original Bit.Trip series developed a game every three months, We really want to make Runner 2 the product it has to be. So we're going to be spending time playtesting it, making it just right."

Expect to slide kick into this one come November.

Pre-Alpha footage of Runner2 along with some gameplay details

Gaijin Games has been pretty quiet since the reveal of Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien, the sequel to the WiiWare/Steam title Bit.Trip.Runner. But they've recently updated their development blog with some new footage above which replaces the pixel art look of the original with a much more eye-popping whimsical look. CommanderVideo has more fluidity in his moves from springs, jumps, and slides away from danger while collecting gold. Joystiq recently had a preview during GDC and new details of the game came about.

Runner 2 information storms out of the party

Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien is looking like a promising new title from the folks at Gaijin Games. During their holiday party, they decided to answer some questions asked by fans about the upcoming game. If you squint really closely, you can catch some footage of the game in action in the background.

New details we learn is that in addition to CommanderVideo being playable, CommandGirl Video will also be playable and a brand new character from a new franchise Gaijin is working on. There will also be in-game checkpoints not found in the original. The plot of the game so far involves CommanderVideo being warped to an alternate dimension. Check the video to find some interesting tidbits about the runner-style game coming out later this year.

First substantial Runner 2 screenshot hits the web

Gaijin Games has released the first legitimate screenshot of their upcoming rhythm based platformer Runner 2, showcasing the game's new art style. While the screen is from an early version of the game with certain objects still lacking textures, you can see the game's transition from 2D to 3D with your very own eyes for the first time. Be sure to take note of the protagonist and fan favorite, CommanderVideo. Gaijin Games states that they spent months nailing down his new design. Be sure to stay tuned to XBLAFans for future updates on Runner 2 as we expect the game to release later this year.
