Contest: Guess the 2012 Summer of Arcade games

E3 2012 is just days away and if the last few years are any indication that means we will soon find out which games will feature in this years Summer of Arcade promotion. In previous years it has been host to some true classics, including: Trials HD, Shadow Complex, Castle Crashers and Braid.

Places look to be hotly contested this year with just about every unreleased XBLA game currently sitting with a nebulous “summer” release window, many no doubt hoping to make the cut. With some of the biggest selling games on Xbox Live being entries in previous years it’s easy to see why. It’s anybody’s guess which games will make it, and in that vein we want you to tell us which games you think will be a part of the promotion this year. This isn’t just for fun either, we’ve got prizes! Find out how to enter and what you could win below. Read More

Microsoft’s E3 media briefing set for June 4

By  •  News

Microsoft has revealed the date and location of its 2012 pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo media briefing. The conference will be held on Monday, June 4 in Los Angeles’ Galen Center. Industry and press members who have been invited have been asked to arrive at 9 a.m. PST. A precise start time for the conference itself was not identified by the console-maker, but it should be noted that the doors swung open at the same hour for last year’s briefing, with the official start time being 9:30 a.m.

It is expected that Microsoft will focus its efforts heavily on promoting Halo 4, its flagship 2012 title, during the course of the show. Judging from the strategy the company has employed at the past several Electronic Entertainment Expos, gamers can also expect the firm to make a multitude of announcements and show plenty of footage of the major Xbox 360, XBLA and Kinect titles arriving during the second half of 2012. The most recent reports have Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft focusing solely on Xbox 360 wares and electing not to pull back the curtain on its next-generation console, supposedly codenamed Durango.

E3 Preview: Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet: Art takes time

By  •  Previews

During E3 week, I had the opportunity to speak in great depth with Michel Gagne about the upcoming title Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet as well as pilot the demo for myself. The result was an entirely original experience from anything I have ever seen or played before. It was impossible to not be impressed.

The full story of Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet starts nearly five years ago when Joe Olson, head of Fuelcell Games approached Michel about bringing feature quality animation to video games. Known for his unique style of animation Michel was a well-respected figure in the movie industry working on titles such as Prelude to Eden, The Iron Giant, Osmosis Jones, and Ratatouille. At the time, Michel was hesitant citing his lack of knowledge of the game industry. Michel informed me that before he started work on Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet (ITSP) he did not know simple video game concepts like what a boss was. Joe was persistent and thankfully persuasive and eventually got Michel onboard under one condition. They would not make a game, but a work of art.
