Dogfight 1942 dive bombs to 800 MSP

Flight combat simulator Dogfight 1942 recently received a sneaky price reduction. The game was originally released on XBLA September 5 of this year for 1200 MSP but is now showing up on the marketplace at the reduced price of 800 MSP. Dogfight 1942 features over 40 historically accurate planes and WWII missions with players engaging in strategic bombing runs and head-to-head dog fights. The game will also feature co-op and survival modes. It’s not clear whether the price change is permanent, but the discount doesn’t appear to be part of any current sales.

Dogfight 1942 flying onto XBLA September 5

A while back we revealed that City Interactive were releasing a XBLA version of their flying series Combat Wings. The game was later renamed to Dogfight 1942 and now finally has a release date of September 5. A new trailer has also been published showing the game in action and aircraft fans will be pleased to hear that the game contains over 40 historically accurate planes, ranging from the fabled P-38 Lightning and Britain’s Spitfire, to the feared Messerschmitt 109 and Japanese Kate. No pricing details have been announced as yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear.

Combat Wings flying over to XBLA

A marketplace listing has been spotted for an arcade version of wartime flying series Combat Wings. However it’s unclear whether the game will be a spin-off to the initially planned retail game Combat Wings: The Great Battles of World War II, or a downloadable replacement. Though both marketplace listing remain despite Combat Wings: GBWWII missing it’s scheduled release date of March. Both games are being developed and published by City Interactive who recently posted on their Facebook wall that Combat Wings has not been cancelled and will be going digital, but it remains to be seen how many games fans can expect.

From the game’s description players can expect to be piloting a wide range of aircraft and engaging in aerial dog fights and dangerous fighter missions across the major theaters of war during WWII. The game is said to feature realistic aircraft and cutting-edge flight dynamics with but with arcade accessibility and offline multiplayer action for up to 2 people. The marketplace listing also shows the game’s release date as June 15 but don’t put it in your diary just yet, it’s likely to just be a placeholder at this time. Many thanks to @lifelower for this tip.

SkyDrift soars onto XBLA September 7

SkyDrift, another Digital Reality project (if you haven’t, check out Sine Mora, their collaboration with Grasshopper Manufacture), takes to the skies in a powerful way. As Senior Game Designer Peter Petrekovits points out in their first dev diary, SkyDrift is all about speed, action, and flight. Toting beautiful graphics and epic draw distances SkyDrift aims to present itself with the utmost of quality, a promise it looks to deliver on. We’ll have to wait to see more from their dev diaries to find out all of what goes on in SkyDrift, but we’re guessing racing, weapon pickup-driven combat, and various surprises on the maps to keep races interesting. Digital Reality’s SkyDrift will be out September 7 alongside Certain Affinity’s Crimson Alliance.
