Blacklight 2 goes free-to-play: will we see it on XBLA?

Zombie Studios is working on the next Blacklight game in the series and has decided to take it to a whole new market. They are now releasing it as a free-to-play (FTP) game. What is this you ask; this means that the game itself is free, but they charge you for; visual upgrades, special weapons and some items. With this module recently being aproved by Microsoft for arcade games; may this be one of the first in its format?

Zombie Studios Confirms Blacklight: Tango Down 2

Blacklight: Tango Down provided quite an impression following it’s release.  According to Majornelson.com, Blacklight topped the arcade sales last week without breaking a sweat.  With the PC version releasing today and Playstation Network’s release uncertain, Zombie announces that a sequel is already in the works.  They are aiming for a Summer 2011 release, but it’s all pretty unknown at the moment.  All of this comes from the mouth of Zombie’s CEO, Mark Long, who also stated that they will focus more on fixing bugs than releasing DLC for Tango Down 1.

Do you think they’re shooting for a spot in next years Summer of Arcade lineup?   But ignoring my inquisition, Long says the sequel will feature larger maps and controllable mech-like vehicles.  Sounds awesome, hopefully they won’t take away the beautiful $15 price tag.  What are your thoughts on Blacklight: Tango Down?  Comment below and talk about it.

Monkey Island 2 and Blacklight: Tango Down – Out Today!

As originally scheduled, Monkey Island 2 and Blackight: Tango Down have released today.  For a short minute, Zombie Studios’ Blacklight: Tango Down had a very questionable fate.   Last week, Ignition Entertainment had denied allegations made by Microsoft about the July 7th release.  “There’s still no confirmed release date for Blacklight. We saw all the posts saying it’s the 7th … but we really don’t know if that will be the date. We should know later this week when the official launch will be. Officially, we are saying ‘summer’ until further notice,” Ignition stated.

It looked as if LeChuck would be the only person having fun this Wednesday, but with a quick and painless announcement yesterday, Ignition confirmed Blacklight will release today.  The children smiled, the rain stopped, and for a brief sadistic moment every nation chuckled.  Why are you still reading this?  Go get Blacklight and t-bag somebody!

Blacklight: Tango Down – meet “The Order”

Blacklight: Tango Down is a first-person shooter created for hardcore shooter fans by Ignition Entertainment and Zombie Studios, and it’s coming this summer to Xbox Live Arcade.  It attempts to bring some freshness to the FPS genre with things like heavily customizable weapons and hacking mini-games.  Throw this in with some zombie-like enemies and sell it on XBL for a quarter of the price of a full retail game, and you just may have a multiplayer experience worth your while.  Here’s some background on one of the factions in the game.

The Order – A mysteriously powerful and brutally efficient group, The Order seeks to wipe out those with SIV (Sentient Insanity Virus) by any means necessary.  In this bleak future of an impotent government, The Order stepped in to prevent society from crumbling and gained trust from the people while recruiting from the finest in their fields.  While there are rumors of mass executions by the group, The Order spreads their influence of propaganda to control the spread of such stories.  They also use their highly advanced customized weapon technology to protect their city and eliminate the SIV epidemic.
