Last chance to play XBLA before the Rapture

It’s time to bring down the mood a bit, guys, and I’m very sorry to do so. This may (won’t) be our last night to enjoy the finer points of XBLA. As all of you know (but no one believes), tomorrow is the impending Rapture. The end of all things. The prologue to DarkSiders. What’s a better way to spend your precious few (many) hours left on Earthrealm than playing the games you never had the chance to enjoy?

Friends, look over this comprehensive (couple months aged) list of XBLAFans’ Must Own XBLA games. Pick wisely because it might (won’t) be your last.

Seriously though, you should play these games regardless of immediate destruction or not.

THQ Contemplating Battlesgrounds to be Cheap or Free

During Gamescon, a representative from THQ released some optimistic news about their upcoming tie-in XBLA title for Red Faction: Armageddon.  According to a conversation between THQ and Joystiq, Battlegrounds may alternatively end up as a pre-order gift for Armageddon.  If they go through with the idea, it would be a great way to entice putting 5 dollars down on a already hot 2011 release.

“No price yet… They are talking about possible pre-order specials. It’s possible, hasn’t been finalized yet, that if you pre-order Armageddon you may be able to toss this in as well. They obviously want to keep it as low as possible.”

But, THQ also hopes to sell this game for a “cheap” 400-800 MS Points for those who just buy it from the marketplace.

THQ Announces DLC for Red Faction: Battlegrounds

Just a mere few days ago, THQ revealed an XBLA tie-in title game for Red Faction: Armageddon.  Now with the excitement temporarily subsided, THQ pulls out another grenade in the form of DLC.  Battlegrounds will have two DLC packs and both will release sometime around the games launch, according to Strategy Informer.

Pack number one is called Armageddon.  Buying this pack will give you extra vehicles to cause carnage with.  The second pack is called Origins, which somehow will tie-in with Red Factions SyFy TV show.

Will Red Factions takeover of 2011 with digital downloads, a standalone release, and a TV show be a tremendous success or be a huge flop?  Comment below and let us know what you think.

Red Faction: Battlegrounds Coming to XBLA

Do you need some Red Faction action soon? Well, you’re in luck. Don Whiteford, THQ Digital creative director, has announced a tie-in title for Red Faction: Armageddon – namely, Red Faction: Battlegrounds. This comes straight out of the GDC Europe conference, where hopes are switched to high.

As previously mentioned by THQ’s Danny Bilson, a tie-in title would be available “three or four months” before 2011′s Armageddon. Which could mean Battlegrounds will release sometime during your upcoming November and December festivities.

According to Gamasutra, this future XBLA release is being developed by a core team of only four people. I know nothing about how to develop a game, but that sure inspires me to find out. Gamasutra also mentions that Battlegrounds is a “a topdown car, mech and rover combat title… with up to four players on the same screen. In addition, various achievements in the game — which was built by a core team of just four people — will unlock unique elements in Red Faction: Armageddon.”
