Microsoft to offer marketplace discounts based on gamerscore

Time to beef up your gamerscore — Microsoft have just announced that they will be rewarding gamers based the achievements they’ve unlocked. Gamers must have a Gold Membership and must be enrolled in the Xbox Live Rewards scheme to benefit. There are three levels of awards to unlock based on your gamerscore: Contender (3000-9999), Champion (10000-24999) and Legend (25000+). All three will receive a special gift during their birthday month; however, Champions will also receive a 1% rebate on all Xbox Live Marketplace purchases each month, whilst Legends gain a 2% rebate.

The small print does suggest that the birthday gift has retail value of just 25 cents or 15 pence, but we think it’s a heck of a lot better than the bumps. For more details and to sign up to the scheme head over the Xbox Live Rewards page.

Meh, doesn’t really seem that worth it. only a 1-2% rebate and a 25 cent gift. I understand it costs them a bunch by the end of the year. Still though, meh…..

Well a few years ago they said the average Gamerscore was about 11K. So these numbers make sense for the community as a whole, but yeah, it would be cool to have a 5% or higher for people over 100K. I’m at around 80K, myself.

Finally gamerscore hunting gets some real benefits, but I also agree that the max level is a bit low.

Too bad that the Rewards program is limited to such a little number of countries, more Xbox fans should be able to benefit…

isnt this .. something like it was always meant to be? .. I always though the orig idea with gamerscore was something similar to this .. eitherway Im ok with it. Just wish it happened .. I dont know .. earlier …

I’m happy about. I know it seems like low numbers to a lot of people, but I’ll bet they reflect a pretty good balance of most Xbox owners. Maybe an exclusive 1-time avatar award for the 100K + players would make a little sense, though.

lol this is a joke when you actually calculate it out. first, with xbox rewards, you only get points deposited into your account when you have 100 microsoft points pending which means you would have to spend 5000 microsoft points before you even get 100 microsoft points back through this assuming you didn’t do any of the surverys or other ways to get points through xbox rewards. lol at that! and yes, i am in fact complaining about free stuff. hey would you like chewed up piece of gum on the ground here. hey, quit complaining that you don’t want it, its free!
