Jordan Mechner’s Karateka remake releasing Nov. 7

The XBLA remake of 1984′s Karateka will release on November 7, Major Nelson revealed today. Mechner, who saw his classic Prince of Persia property successfully revived by Ubisoft during the last console generation, first announced the remake of the Apple II title combining platforming and fighting components this past February. Although a few screenshots appeared on Xbox.com earlier this month before quickly being pulled down, the project has been dark since then.

Mechner describes the original game as a “a life-changing breakthrough” for him. He had seen programming as nothing more than a hobby before its release, which proved to him that it could be a career. Its success inspired the designer to begin work on the original Prince of Persia immediately following college.
