Quick and simple question for today. Do you guys play Xbox Live Indie games? If not, is there a reason you haven't given them a try? Even if you do, how do you think Microsoft can improve the service?
I highly recommend listening to our XBLA Fancast Episode 11 where we talk about this topic.

XBLIG games should be experienced. They are often developed by just a handful of people and can be just as great as other games on XBLA. I recently picked up Avatar Legends and I am loving every second of it. The disappointment I felt for both Fable 2 and 3 has been alleviated by Avatar Legends.
I know a lot of people want XBLIG games to have achievements and I think that would encourage newcomers to purchase them.

Yes I do play them. I like Indie Games for a one reason and one reason only… I like to game!
The reality is I play Indie Games for the same reason as full release titles… Fun! There are a Myriad of other reasons why I buy Indie Games, but I thought I'd just point out the obvious for why I play them.

I play them once and a while, if one catches my interest or I have extra MSP lying around. I haven't played one in a while, but I have heard good things about Blocks That Matter, so I may pick that up.

I play a ton of them because I always preferred small innovative games. As XBLA shifts slightly away from that, XBLIG has shined with innovation.
I know about 90 people on my friends list that wont play them because they don't have achievements. It really is that simple. Even if all Indie games were crap, which they aren't, my friends would still play them for gamerscore. I have tons of friends that play the most terrible retail games that you never even heard of because they want that cheap 1000 gamerscore. If Indie games had 100 gamerscore attached to them, I predict that sales would go up anywhere from 25%-50% depending on how easy achievements were as well as if it was 80MSP or not. This would be great but it would also create another issue being that 240 and 400MSP games would suffer drastically.

I love playing Indie Games but I hate not getting 'chievos. I think that 100 gamerscore is too much. Probably 50 is a more realistic number, especially for a 80MSP game. I don't think retail titles would suffer any more than disc based titles have suffered from xbla. rather I think that they would actually increase the overall spending of gamers …. which is certainly what they want.

I love the indie game concept, but it is poorly organized. Having an XNA subscription is all you need to publish and indie game and that should be reviewed a little better. There are some amazing gems in the indie game market, but if someone doesn't go through all the games or read about it, then it is easily lost amongst all the crap that does pop out. Some of these developers are pouring there heart and soul into these games in hopes that someone will find it and love it. More so is the average person with basic programming skills making games just to say they made one or hope to make a few bones off of it.
That being said, achievements would be a great addition to indie games, as it would definitely help increase the sale. Another nice thing is most these games come out for just 80MSP ($1USD) so when I buy one that turns out to be crap, I am not to bothered by it. I just wish there was a better filtering system or maybe a 5 star rating system for the XNA community so not only does it have a rating for the content but for the quality.
Just my 2 cents.

Nope, we don't have indie games over here. I hope they get over here in Norway and with achievements. From what I read Finland also don't have XBLIG.
Edit: Tried one demo through UK account: FortressCraft. Was nice but need UK points to buy it.

Just bought my first XBLIG's. Paratisus: Ninja Zero and Astroman. Both games are really good I must admit. Looking forward to Raventhorne as-well as I likes me some hack n' slash.

Glad to see more people heading towards the XBLIG market, there are tons of good options. For some good ideas you should check out our XBLIG monthly round-up.
