Allright fess up … who here has played a game well past the point of enjoyment just to get a complete game?
For me it was Blazblue. I absolutely loved the game. But then I finally got the 1000/1000. Then I never turned it on again. A shame really.

Literally 75% of the games I play are past the enjoyment stage. I have 180ish XBLA completions and I bet I only enjoyed about 40 or so of them. It would be easier for me to name the games I enjoy as opposed to those that I don't enjoy. But here is a short list of the ones that stand out as most hated:
Lode Runner + DLC
Jewel Quest
Banjo Kazooie
Yaris
Peggle (like the actual game, but the achievements made me like it a lot less)
Bloody Good Time
Wik Fable of Souls
Midnight Club LA
Splosion' Man
Darwinia
N+
Death Tank
Brian Challenge
Commanders Attack of the Genos
Lost Cities

Banjo Kazooie is one of my most hated games ever. I never played it until XBLA and I got a code for it off eBay for like $4 and I still overpaid.
The part that pissed me off the most was the fact that the text you were to read was WAY too much, so I hammered the "A" button through any dialog sequences. Then you reach the end of the game and I find out that I have to know random trivia about all those dialog sequences with that board game thing at the end. What a piece of crap. Thank god for Google.

I can honestly say I don't think I've ever played a game I wasn't enjoying just to complete achievements.
It's why I'm missing some easy (albeit time consuming achievements like Dead Rising: Case Zero).

What achievements are time consuming in Case Zero? I don't remember that one taking that long.

Add Doritos Crash Course to my list. I finally completed it today and it is a top 5 worst XBLA game that I have played. I simply hate everything about that game.

I had ideas about completing Crash Course and realized quickly the folly of that idea. If you just play it for fun a few times then it wouldnt be so hated. But a game that isnt that precise that asks fairly difficult things of you is bound to be hated.

Exactly. Those spped run kind of games have to have precise controls which is does not. They also have to be designed for you to move as fast as possible at all times. And the fact that Crash Course makes you stop and wait at times is totally unacceptable. Going too fast often outruns the patterns and players should be rewarded for fast times, not penalized for them.

Oh lord the list is infinite for me as I discover new titles all the time that I end up playing way past the point of enjoyment or were just not fun from the start. Some of the infamous titles for me would be
Madden '07- The damn superstar achievements were ridiculous. Was ready to break my Xbox by the time it was over.
Wet- This game is fun for a quick play through that is all. Still can't bring myself to finish this one.
War Tech: Senko No Ronde- Here is yet another one I have yet to drudge all the way through to finish as it requires way to many hours to rank all the way up.
Monopoly & Trivial Pursuit- Like are you serious, some of the achievements in these games are just plain dumb and make me mad. These two games really helped push me away from achievements.

Forza 3: After level 50 I was done, however I didnt give up until all races were done either by hire driver or drive myself.
Mafia 2: Actually enjoyed this game alot, though driving the 1000 miles (glitched achievement) twice was a bit painful.
Pirates of Caribbean: Getting 100 souls sounds easy but it was tricky. I had to grind this out on level 2 to get the last 40 souls. Running back and forth waiting for the correct enemy to spawn.

Indeed that damn soul achievement sucked. Another game that totally just tweaked my buttons was Bee movie game, holy hell that game is so glitched.

I never play a game to death for achievements, unless theyre easy ones I missed. Never finished Halo Reach on legendary, never collected all the notes in Banjo Kazooie, never…
And Andrew, how dare you bash Banjo-Kazooie. Love that game sooooo much, and I think quizing you on dialogue was pretty clever. It pays to pay attention.

Sorry I am with Andrew on this the whole Banjo franchise was never very entertaining to me. Truthfully I also agree with him about the quiz part, sure it's kinda a cool idea, but in the end way more pain then it's worth, let me explain why. I have had several deaths happened and cut-scenes missed because of my children., you can't control when you will have to walk away or how quickly. So failing me because my son started screaming from the other side of the house at the same time an important piece of information happens or because I have a poor memory is unfair and a sure fire way to make sure I never pay attention to that franchise or company again.

Yeah that quiz was BS. I don't want to pay attention to a story in a game unless it is unique and worth looking into like Braid or Portal. The Banjo Kazooie story elements were the same crappy elements that we see in every kids game and that was apparent from the first 10 or so story sections that I did chose to read. It was clear that I wasn't going to care about the story after that so hammering the "A" button was the route to take. I also couldn't stand the noise that damn bird makes when he "talks". I wanted to get through that ASAP!

I agree 100% with you Andrew, heck when I am playing games like that I have my laptop in front of me playing a movie or my TV shows that I missed that week. So although I am looking at the game, I am focusing as much of my brain as I can on the laptop. So to ask me what happened as I hammered on the buttons trying to skip the cut scenes and staring at my laptop………not cool dude, not cool.
