To promote its upcoming Naughty Bear sequel, Panic in Paradise, developer 505 Games have released the first, very brief gameplay trailer, which depicts the titular character maiming, mauling and generally slaughtering his stuffed bear brethren (in the cutest way possible, of course). It’s the first, short glimpse at a follow-up to a game that was fairly poorly-received when it release – and thus a sequel that some consider puzzling at best.

The original Naughty Bear focused on, well, Naughty Bear, a shoddily-made teddy bear on an island full of the stuffed dolls who decides to take out his frustration at being ostracized in the most violent way possible. The game, which hit retail stores in June 2010, was met with a mostly negative reviews across the board – a 3/10 review at IGN and a 2/5 over at Joystiq, to name two examples. Whether this downloadable outing will fix the issues that plagued the original (or whether gamers and reviewers are more willing to put up with them with the lower price tag) remains to be seen, but some early reports from E3 suggest that might be the case, at least partially.

Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise will hit XBLA and the PlayStation Network in September for an as-yet-unannounced price.
