[springboard type=”youtube” id=”dbBGMAAt5zc” player=”xbla001″ width=”640″ height=”400″ ] Fans of the classic, cult (or should that be occult?) beat-em-up Darkstalkers had good reason to rejoice yesterday after Capcom announced that a HD remake of classic arcade titles Night Warriors: Darkstalkers’ Revenge and Darkstalkers 3 is in development at Iron Galaxy Studios. The two games will be packaged together under the moniker of Darkstalkers Resurrection. Similarly to other classic Capcom remakes of late, Darkstalkers Resurrection will run using the GGPO platform, which should ensure that online play is virtually lag-free and almost as gripping as the local multiplayer bouts that many folk remember.

For those not familiar with the previous games, the Darkstalkers series blends classic 2D beat-em-up mechanics with a richly animated world of werewolves, succubi, yetis, swamp creatures and similar monsters. Despite their unlikely setting, versions of Darkstalkers and its two sequels were popular both in amusement arcades and as boxed console releases during the 1990s.

Darkstalkers Resurrection will be available in early 2013, with no exact release date having yet been confirmed. It will carry a price tag of 1200 MSP, which is contrary to the 1600 MSP price stated in the original press release.
