Off Topic: Our Key to Dead Island

While our site may focus on XBLA games, the staff at XBLA Fans likes to dabble in retail titles as well. If you said the words L.A. Noire (which releases next Tuesday), I can think of three or four writers who would instantly perk up and who wouldn’t be able to stop talking. I couldn’t stop talking after I viewed the Dead Island trailer for the first time, as it may be one of the best cinematic sequences I have ever seen.

Come this E3, I can’t wait to get the opportunity to check out Dead Island and get all the juicy details. You can expect to see quick previews on select retail titles as part of our E3 Best of Disc Feature. Big thanks to our friend Aubrey Norris for thinking of us. If you don’t already follow her on twitter you should. She is absolutely hilarious and does a fantastic job representing her products to fans.

American McGee’s Alice downloadable through Madness Returns

So you’re excited for the new Alice game coming out but maybe you haven’t played the original? American McGee has got you covered and allowing those who purchase a new copy of Madness returns to download the orignal. When you buy Alice: Madness Returns, you will get a code to use to redeem an online pass (much like many of EA’s other games of late). This will give you access to a download of the original game. However if you buy used you’ll have to buy the pass through the main menu of Alice: Madness Returns for 800 MSP. No word yet on if it’s getting a separate XBLA release without the need to buy Madness Returns, we’ll keep you posted on any changes.

Happy Birthday to us!

As we close out on Brawler Week we’re gearing up for another celebration; today XBLAFans.com turns one! To celebrate we’re having an Xbox Live Indie Games Extravaganza. We’ve contacted over 20 indie developers and have received an amazing response from them. All this month we’ll be posting reviews, coverage on developers and eating lots of delicious cake (well, maybe not month-old cake). And best of all we have 50+ XBLIG codes to give away! No contests this time, but we’ll be dropping them in comments, hiding them in posts, on Facebook, and on Twitter. Come celebrate with us!

Halo 3: ODST coming to Games On Demand?

So in non-XBLA/XBLIG news: This morning we booted up our 360′s to see an advertisement to buy Halo 3: ODST via Games On Demand, found in the Spotlight channel. The notice was taken down a few hours later and no download for the game was ever actually listed. It seems that an ad got scheduled a little early. This all but confirms the game is coming via digital download, but treat this as a rumor until you see it for yourself. We’re sure this pleases @NathanFillion.

Uber Entertainment’s April Fool’s joke is just cruel

Great, now we all want the game, but it’s totally fake. Discuss.

Off Topic: Congrats to Caro.net for becoming the Official Datacenter of Upcoming MMO World of Tanks

What we do at XBLA wouldn’t be possible by ourselves. It takes an entire team of people willing to devote the spare time to talk about video games. But even then, we wouldn’t have anywhere to put our gaming discussion without this website and its host. Caronet provides us top notch hosting. I don’t know if you’ve seen the recent commercials where people just suddenly start talking about their bank, but I’ve honestly found myself doing that about Caronet. We really do love our webhosts.

Believe it or not though, these guys are into XBLA Games too. They love games in general. So it wasn’t a surprise when I found out that these gamers would be chosen to host the upcoming PC MMO, World of Tanks. We couldn’t be prouder of them and want to wish them the best of luck.

Marat Karpeko, COO at Wargaming, developers at World of Tanks had this to say:    “Caronet fully satisfies our requirements to operate the intensive development environment we need to deliver a complete set of services expected in an ace-high MMO game.   Their attention to specific details, however minute, plus their level of interpersonal communication really sets them far apart from the rest of the data centers we have worked with in the past. Expanding upon what we had and giving us invaluable input back and forth made the integration seamless.”

If you’re interested in more info on World of Tanks, you can check out the game here.
