The squared circle may be heading to Xbox Live Arcade thanks to THQ in the form of WWE WrestleFest, a remake of the early 90′s arcade game which will be coming to iOS soon. THQ’s Community Manager, Marcus Stephenson, hints that WrestleFest may be arriving on more than just iOS devices. Mr. Stephenson replied to a Twitter comment implying that sales would be good for the title if it was brought to XBLA. Mr. Stephenson replied, “You should wait for Feb 21 before you believe anything. Just saying, bro! :)WWE Wrestlefest will arrive on iOS devices next week. We will need to wait and see if February 21 brings about an official announcement from THQ regarding a XBLA release.

Rumor: The Simpsons Arcade releasing next week?

From all the ratings and an achievement list, The Simpsons Arcade‘s release is looking more imminent. While we still don’t have a confirmed release date, PSN will be getting the game as part of its PS+ program for free on February 7 – 29. Does this mean a possible XBLA release on February 8? The same day as Shank 2? We’ll keep you up to date if this yellow-skinned family is coming to XBLA soon.

Gotham City Impostors could be releasing February 8

After getting pushed back last month, Gotham City Impostors’ final release date may have been revealed today. The Bat Signal shined brightly over Twitter earlier this afternoon, as an image from the XBL marketplace surfaced bearing a date for Impostors. The purported release date, February 8, is the same day Shank 2 is scheduled to be available.

Chalk this one up as a rumor for the time being, as there has yet to be any sort of confirmation from either Monolith Productions or Warner Bros. That being said, the eighth of February certainly makes sense considering that Warner pushed the game back one month earlier in January.

Rhythm Party may be squeezing into a busy February release schedule

Upcoming XBLA dance game Rhythm Party has been spotted on Xbox Live Marketplace with a due date of February 8. No official confirmation has been announced from Microsoft or publisher Konami however if the date is correct then it’s shaping up to be a busy month. So far February is expected to see XBLA releases of Gotham City Impostors, Awesomenauts, Shank 2 and Double Fine’s Kinect party game, Happy Action Theater. Joining those will also be the House Party promoted titles, I Am Alive, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, Warp and Nexuiz. It’s just as well February comes with an extra day this year. Best stock up on those MS points then!

Many thanks to @lifelower for the tip.

Rumor: Minecraft inspiring Microsoft to speed up XBLA patching process?

Paddy Burns, Chief Technology Officer at 4J Studios (the team handling the XBLA version of Mojang’s smash hit Minecraft) recently told Edge that big changes may be coming to Microsoft’s title update certification process on Xbox Live. As of now, the certification process takes weeks, forcing players to wait for an update or patch that has already been finished by developers. Burns states that;

“Microsoft knows that to do a similar thing that’s on PC where they constantly update it, that’s a very difficult thing to do on Xbox because you have to go through the full tests. But they are quite keen to move towards that – they do see it as the future, so I think we might be the first to do constant updates.”

Many believe that Microsoft’s certification process is one of the things holding titles on Xbox Live back. Any streamlining of the process would certainly be welcomed by both fans and the development community alike. Games like Minecraft, which are heavily reliant on constant updates would certainly benefit from a speedier update process. While Burns states that he doesn’t expect Minecraft on XBLA to be updated as much as the PC version of the game in the end, this is certainly a move in the right direction. We can only hope that we see these changes implemented in the very near future.

Is EA reviving Mutant League Football?

Although Joe Flacco bore a striking resemblance to the living dead when his Ravens edged out the Texans in their AFC Divisional playoff game last weekend, that’s not actually him wearing a different jersey depicted in the above image. No, what you’re looking at is the Easter egg awarded to players for completing “Blitz Gauntlet” mode in the XBLA and PSN title, NFL Blitz. The unlockable zombie team is an obvious nod to the 1993 Sega Genesis classic, Mutant League Football.

Naturally, its inclusion has led to speculation over whether or not this is EA’s way of teasing a new Mutant League release of some sort. Kotaku’s Owen Good took it upon himself to investigate the matter; in doing so he discovered that a number of designers within the studio are indeed interested in such a project. This does not, however, in any way confirm that a remake or sequel is definitively on the way.

Microsoft registers Crimson Dragon

Microsoft has registered a game named Crimson Dragon on the Korean Games Rating Board. Since publishers make a regular habit of registering names that never amount to anything, XBLA Fans is stuffing this one into the rumor bin for the time being. That being said, another Microsoft-published XBLA game was just outed in a similar manner, so Crimson Dragon may yet prove to be an actual release.

There isn’t much to go on at this time as far as the game’s particulars, but a rough translation reveals that a “flying dragon quest” is part of the equation, which comes as no surprise given the title.

Rumor: 7sixty bringing Kung Fu beat em’ up HurricaneX2 to XBLA

Silicon Era is reporting that 7sixty will soon announce that they will be publishing the Kung Fu centric beat em’ up HurricaneX2. Developed by Chinese developer You Yun Tech, the game focuses on Chinese culture and philosophy with Kung Fu representing a form of expression as much as a style of combat. The video above represents an early build of the game running on PC. We contacted 7sixty in hopes of confirming that HurricaneX2 will release via Xbox Live Arcade (we think it will) but the response we got back is some sort of cryptic Chinese proverb about being showered in petals of truth and lotus blossoms. We hope to be able to bring you clarification soon.

New Alan Wake for XBLA is “effectively Alan Wake 2″

When we brought you news of a new Alan Wake game tentatively titled Alan Wake: Night Springs was making its way onto Xbox Live Arcade, fans of the series had mixed reactions. While news of more Alan Wake was certainly welcomed, some wondered why Remedy was taking the route of digital distribution and wondered if a “smaller” game could do the universe justice. Geoff Keighley, organizer of the Spike VGA’s recently spoke out about the game on Major Nelson’s podcast to quell fears. Stating that he’d seen the reveal trailer to be shown at the Spike VGA’s this Saturday, Keighley states;

“I mean, it effectively is, I think, Alan Wake 2 when you really look at it and look what they’re doing with that game. It’s really ambitious, beautiful technology and I think people are going to be really excited about it.” Elaborating, Keighley states that he believes that the new Alan Wake for XBLA will not be a “small” experience, and that downloadable games in general will rapidly be increasing in size in the future. If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s this; XBLAFans will bring you more news on Alan Wake: Night Springs (or whatever the final title may be) as soon as it breaks. Stay tuned.

Rumor: Ron Gilbert’s project at Double Fine teased

Once upon a time many eons ago, two men teamed up at LucasArts and created classic games such as Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, and Maniac Mansion. One of those men, Tim Schafer went on to found Double Fine Productions, the studio responsible for hits such as Psychonauts, Trenched and Costume Quest. The other man, Ron Gilbert has bounced around throughout the years recently working on titles such as DeathSpank and Tales of Monkey Island. In the present, Mr. Gilbert has reunited with his old co-worker, and is currently working at Tim Shafer’s Double Fine Productions. So then the question is, what is Ron Gilbert working on?

Above you see the first concept art released from Gilbert’s unannounced project at Double Fine. Published on his blog, Gilbert states that the art depicts characters who are playable in the game, which is still unofficial at this point. We’re not even sure if the game will be digital download, or a retail game. What we do know however is that Gilbert has stated that this new project will please fans of old school adventure games. Whatever it is, we’re excited about it, and we sincerely hope that it will grace Xbox Live Arcade. Stay tuned for more news on the game, and other projects in development over at Double Fine here at XBLAFans.
