PAX East: Hands-on Fallen Frontier

Want a cooperative game that has a similar feel and style to Shadow Complex, but the gunplay of Halo? Well then you want to play Fallen Frontier. The game is currently in development at Moonshot Games, a new studio which houses some ex-Bungie developers, and already it’s looking impressive.

Fallen Frontier is a 2D platformer that has a dark, cel-shaded art style. Moonshot also added a small bit of photographic art touches, like very subtle wall sections on the forefront. It adds something small, but it’s worth mentioning because it’s the little things that really sets this title apart from the others.

Swarm’s Avatar Awards Are Bug-eyed Awesomeness

Swarm developer Hothead Games will be continuing the XBLA tradition of an awesome article of clothing and an awesome prop to go with your achievements. However, instead of some run-of-the-mill T-shirt, players of Swarm get an awesome hat with big buggy eyes! Fantastic. Not to mention a delightful looking Swarmite to keep you company. Not sure which achievements get them for you, but they both look absolutely delightful.

Outland Coming to XBLA (Late April to Early May)

Ubisoft’s action-platformer Outland is nearing it’s release on XBLA. The news comes from a tweet from developer Housemarque claiming that the XBLA version of the game would be releasing around the same time that the PSN version goes live which is “Late April to Early May” according to the PlayStation blog.

Outland is a very unique and artistic game that features a Castlevania: SOTN style of platforming and exploration. It’s combat system features an Ikaruga-like polarity element that allows users to switch from light and dark energy attacks. This is a very interesting combination that looks to have some serious potential to stand out. Here is the official announcement trailer:

Stacking Loses Hobo King in DLC

More info on the upcoming DLC for Double Fine’s Stacking has surfaced in the form of four new achievements. The title of the DLC seems to be The Lost Hobo King. This may be referring to Levi, the hobo helping protagonist Charlie in the game. The DLC seems to feature new challenges and unique dolls. No release date yet, but you can buy the full game now, or read our review here.

Update:  Double Fine has sent a press release outline their new Stacking DLC, which can be read below:

In early April, the adventures of Charlie Blackmore continue in The Lost Hobo King, an all-new add-on content for Stacking on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®Network for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.

In Stacking, one of 2011′s most critically acclaimed downloadable titles, players joined the adventures of little Charlie Blackmore as he rescued his chimney sweeping family from the clutches of the industrialist known only as the Baron. Charlie’s unique ability to stack into dolls larger than himself and use their abilities to overcome challenges was the key to his success.

In The Lost Hobo King, Charlie travels to the kingdom of Camelfoot to help his hobo friend Levi with an important family matter. Levi’s uncle Rufus, heir to the throne of Hobo, may only take his rightful place if the lost crown can be found. To recover the fragmented crown, Charlie must use his unique talents to overcome several tests of valor left by the ancient hobo mystics. It is only then that the ancient crown can be re-forged, Rufus crowned, and the fractured hobo people united under one sardine.

The Lost Hobo King downloadable pack extends the Stacking experience with features that include:

  • An all-new storyline sprinkled with Double Fine’s signature charm;
  • A fully realized environment to explore – the lost hobo kingdom of Camelfoot;
  • Several new challenges, each with multiple solutions;
  • More than 15 new unique dolls, each with new abilities;
  • A new set of mischief making hi-jinks to discover and enjoy;
  • New achievements and trophies to earn

Swarm gets a beautifully disturbing launch trailer

There’s something strangely gripping about this trailer.  Maybe it’s because we all know that evil little girl down the street, or maybe it’s because we can’t wait to see all the ways we can cause T-rated death to the swarmites.  Either way our excitement is building.  Luckily the wait will soon be over, as Swarm comes to Xbox Live Arcade March 23.
