Awesomenauts Release Trailer drops with an extra guitar riff

Just a few days ago we were all sent spiraling away from our computer screens, cringing at the news of DTP’s insolvency announcement. Luckily, one way or another, Awesomenauts has pulled through and is loading into its drop pod at this very moment! Months ago, when the game was announced, we were all taken in by Awesomenauts‘ 80s sense of style and catchy theme song. With this latest trailer, that theme is back with 200% more guitar riff! Surely that guitar riff is Ronimo’s way of assuring us everything is not only fine, it’s awesome!

Speaking of awesome, check out our impressions of the game from PAX East if you’re not sure what it is still (by some amazing chance). If you know what it is but aren’t sure how to approach it, or how to play it, check out our XBLA Primer on MOBA for a rundown of the genre to which Awesomenauts belongs and some of its trademark features.

First Deadlight dev diary explains the game’s ‘bleak’ setting

Spanish developer Tequila Works has released the first developer diary for its debut effort, Deadlight. In the diary, CEO & Creative Director Raúl Rubio is joined by Narrative Director Antonio Rojano to explain why the decision was made to set the game in the Pacific Northwest during the 1980s. “Tequila kept two key concepts in mind,” says Rojano of how the team approached development of this summer’s run-for-your-life zombie game. “One that it was to be a game about zombies and two, that it had to take place in the [1980s].”

Despite the development studio being based in Madrid, the team settled on the United States as the home for player-character Randall Wayne’s adventures because the locales there were home to many of the books, comics, games and movies from which the team drew inspiration and are therefore easily recognizable to audiences around the globe thanks to being heavily featured in media.

XBLA Fans previously caught up with Rubio at PAX East, at which time he also touched upon some of the reasoning behind Deadlight‘s setting and a few of its sources of inspiration. The developer diary does a nice job of expanding on those points and offers some brief behind-the-scenes glimpses of Tequila’s level design work.

Sega Vintage Collections: Streets of Rage and Golden Axe info leak on Marketplace

Sega has recently been porting their classic games with Sega Ages and they may have put up more info on the dashboard that they quickly took down. Both new collections are based on the classic Streets of Rage and Golden Axe games, anthologizing the Genesis trilogies on XBLA. All of the titles will feature achievements, leaderboards and offline/online co-op. Unsure of when these collections will release but since they’re ports, shouldn’t take too long. You can catch some box-art after the break and stay tuned for more information on these classic collections. Thanks to @lifelower for the tip.

Joy Ride Turbo announced for XBLA

Microsoft have announced that Joy Ride Turbo will be heading to XBLA. The new game is from the developers of Kinect Joy Ride, Big Park Studios and it’s launch is said to be “just weeks away”. Fans of the genre may also be pleased to hear that the game has gone back to it’s original design roots, for the karting action will be controller-based rather than the Kinect controls of it’s predecessor. According to Microsoft, Joy Ride Turbo is said to feature the following:

• Race your friends in local 4-player split-screen or compete with up to 8 on Xbox LIVE.
• Knock out your competitors and take the race lead with rockets, mines, dynamite drops and more.
• Explore the new Stunt Park to gather all of the collectibles and showoff your skills.
• Find and collect car parts to unlock vehicles, each with unique speed and handling characteristics, giving you an edge in your next race.
• Achieve racing leaderboard fame in 3 modes of play: Battle Race, Pro Race & Time Trial.

Joy Ride had been originally announced back in 2009 at E3 to be a free to play XBLA game, however many gamers were disappointed when it was re-designed and released as a Kinect only retail game, Kinect Joy Ride. There is no word on how this new version will be priced but PlayXBLA have published some brand new screenshots to enjoy while we wait for more information.

New video shows concept art for the upcoming Trine 2 DLC

Trine 2 is an action, adventure, puzzler, mixed up with breath taking backdrops and three well developed characters. Each of the puzzles you encounter are designed to be solved using the special abilities of every character. This is handled by allowing you to switch through all three characters at the press of a button in single player or play in co-op allowing each one to be controlled by another live person, which has it’s ups and downs as we said back in December. That has not stopped the game from creating an almost cult like fan base, and Frozenbyte Games has definitely taken notice to this.

Since February we have been teased with news of DLC coming our way this summer for Trine 2. Making sure to keep fans enthralled Frozenbyte Games, have made sure to slowly release information through interviews and video about the upcoming expansion. In this new making of video we get a glimpse at some of the concept art, from Juhani Jokinen, in several stages of development. We also get a brief description as to what role concept art plays and why it’s so important.

Inside Xbox gives us a look at Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

The latest edition of Inside Xbox gives us a sneak peak at Valve’s addictive and uber-competitive shooter, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The video (which can be viewed above) shows off over three minutes of gameplay footage, while Valve’s very own Chet Faliszek talks about what’s new in Global Offensive and what makes it different from the rest of today’s shooter market. Among the topics discussed are the game’s new Demolition Mod, its skilled based matchmaking system which promises to open the game up to newcomers like never before.

The original version of Counter-Strike launched in the year 2000, instantly pulling in millions of players with its fast, frantic skill based gameplay and high levels of competition. The game has received continuous support from Valve since its launch with frequent updates still being released twelve years later. Global Offensive is the latest version of the game, and represents the first time that the Counter-Strike franchise has been brought to consoles since the takeoff of online gaming services like Xbox Live. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is currently slated to bring a new level of competitiveness to XBLA this summer.
