What we are playing: Week of October 2

What we are playing is a weekly column that appears each weekend. Various staff members let the world know what games had them hooked the past week and which ones they look forward to.

Todd Schlickbernd – I’ve been playing lots of Orcs Must Die! for our upcoming guide and recently picked up Worms: Ultimate Mayhem which I played with a couple friends. Pleasantly surprised with it so far, so that’s nice. Other than that, Gears of War 3 and League of Legends.

Perry Jackson – Started up the Battlefield 3 Beta on the weekend and it’s pretty fun. I’ve never really played much of the Battlefield games but I really enjoy the feel of it. Other than that, picked up Outland on sale and for 400 MSP, you can’t go wrong. It’s a neat little platformer that has some pretty cool action elements.

Ryan Reynolds – I’m still feasting on Gears of War 3 which has a metric ton of great content to offer. I’ve also got a few games of the Battlefield 3 Beta in.

James Heiger – Still playing Gears of War 3 and I picked up a lot of stuff on sale recently. Shank is alot of fun.

Jonathan Cole – I’ve been eating up a lot of time with Gears of War 3, mostly in the Horde and Beast modes. Aside from that, I’ve been trying to finally 100% Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes and not go crazy playing the buggy Battlefield 3 Beta.

Damon Fillman – I literally can’t stop playing Gears of War 3, but I’ve also played Worms: Ultimate Mayhem which is surprisingly fun. I’m preparing myself for next week’s onslaught of even more games. Bye bye cash!

John Drawdy – I have gotten a bunch of time in with Orcs Must Die!, but have gone back and worked on finishing up Red Bull X-Fighters and Crimson Alliance. I have played a little of the new MLB Bobblehead Battle game for a review and have purchased almost 10 XBLA games I have yet to play in the past week. Need more time to play games, bye bye sleep.

Ross Adams – Finished up Gears of War 3, as well as played a bunch of Horde and Versus. Been trying out the Battlefield 3 Beta, which is pretty cool although very buggy (it is a beta after all). Just picked up Section 8: Prejudice on sale and discovering I’m quite good at it and enjoying it a lot as a result.

Nathan Bowring – Impulse-bought Mercury HG, which is rather fun and is helping me memorize the periodic table. Also returned to the classic Assassin’s Creed II and the amazing flying machine sequence. Hope my gaming experience is adding variety, I’m like the only one here who didn’t play Gears of War 3!

Nicholas DePetris – I picked up Outland on sale and am really enjoying it so far. It’s a pretty interesting game with a great art style. I’m going to be playing Gears of War 3 all day Sunday as well – pretty excited!

Christine Mitchell – I bought Portal in the recent sale so been playing through that and I finished the main story on Torchlight this week too.

Stephen Haberman – It has been mostly Gears of War 3 for me as well. I just finished Act 3 and played through 50 levels of Horde. I also happen to be one of the lucky ones in the Diablo lll Beta, which is fabulous.

What we are playing: Week of September 25

What we are playing is a weekly column that appears each weekend. Various staff members let the world know what games had them hooked the past week and which ones they look forward to.

Perry Jackson – Not a whole lot of XBLA. Been playing a lot of Gears of War 3, great campaign but a severe lack of giant worms. Can’t wait to join in more multiplayer with some of the rest of the writers. I’m also trying to finish Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box so I can move on to the rest of the series.

Ryan Reynolds – I finished the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine campaign on Monday. A great game in a great universe. I’ve been playing Gears of War 3 ever since and I’ve also been dabbling in Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury which I will be reviewing very soon.

Damon Fillman – I literally can’t stop playing Gears of War 3. It’s a problem really, can anyone help me with this addiction? The only thing that can pry me away from it is Resident Evil 4 HD, but then I just get sucked into that!

Nicholas DePetris – I’ve been playing through the action-puzzler Rotastic and inching closer to 100% in Super Meat Boy. Five levels of Cotton Alley Dark World left!

Ross Adams – Been playing a ton of stuff at the Eurogamer Expo, check my Twitter feed and next weeks podcast for specifics. Just to make everyone jealous I will say I played Skyrim.

James Heiger – Playing Gears of War 3 like everybody else. I am also working my way through Story Mode in Radiant Silvergun. I am downloading the demo for Portal right now to see what all the fuss is about.

John Drawdy – I have sadly not been playing Gears of War 3 but I have however, been working on finishing up the last achievement in Red Bull X-Fighters. I have however also managed to get sometime in on Harms Way finishing up all but one achievement.

Nathan Bowring – Picked up L.A. Noire again, I love the game but have been too distracted by other game to finish it. What I’m not playing is Gears of War 3 (awww).

What we are playing: Week of September 18

What we are playing is a weekly column that appears each weekend. Various staff members let the world know what games had them hooked the past week and which ones they look forward to.

Perry Jackson – Other than playing Radiant Silvergun for review, been mostly going through the backlog. I started up Gears of War 2 in preparation for Tuesday and went back into Mass Effect just so I can hang out with Wrex again.

Ryan Reynolds – I’m playing Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury and will be reviewing it shortly. I’m also playing Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine as well as Dead Island with my co-op buddy.

James HeigerRadiant Silvergun, Bloodrayne Betrayal, and Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury have been keeping me busy.

Damon Fillman – I’m eagerly anticipating Gears of War 3 and Resident Evil 4 HD, but in the mean time I’m playing through Bloody Checkers on XBLIG. Don’t disregard that game; it’s like if King’s Quest and Checkers had a baby.

Steve Melton – Been into SkyDrift as often as I can the last few weeks. I’m also still playing Need for Speed: Most Wanted. I also fired up my old Xbox to play Def Jam: Fight for New York and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. I might play through Halo 2 again as well. Classic.

Nathan Bowring – Been too busy to play anything besides a few rounds of Halo: Reach. I am anxiously awaiting the mid-September Portal 2 DLC, which hopefully won’t fall victim to the dreaded “Valve time”.

Christine Mitchell – I fired up Castle Crashers this week to check out the new Pink Knight character (sooo cute) and I’ve also been playing Leedmees for review, Torchlight and Left 4 Dead 2.

John Drawdy – Man I have had a busy game week, between playing with the kids and for reviews, kind of all over the place. Me and the two little ones had a few rounds of Turtles in Time and Castle Crashers and steady at work on Take Arms (XBLIG) and Red Bull X-Fighters (XBLA) for reviews; both will be available very soon.

What we are playing: Week of September 11

What we are playing is a weekly column that appears each weekend. Various staff members let the world know what games had them hooked the past week and which ones they look forward to.

Perry Jackson – Played the trial for SkyDrift and it was a whole lot of fun! I expect to hopefully buy it and get some races in with some of the other writers. Other than that, finished Borderlands in preparation for the sequel next year but by the end of weekend, I will finish Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Ryan ReynoldsResistance 3 and Dead Island! Soon to be playing Warhammer 40, 000: Space Marine and Crimson Alliance.

John Drawdy – Let’s see, I finished up Ugly Americans: Apocalypsegeddon for a full 200/200, been working on getting all golds in Crimson Alliance for the final achievement. Other than that I have played a handful of Indie games, sadly enough though most not even even worth the trial.

Ross Adams – Been playing Bloodrayne Betrayal for review, need to read that to see what I thought. Also played a bit of Crimson Alliance, loving the wizard! Looking forward to playing more, especially some co-op.

Christine Mitchell – A successful week for me: I completed the Indie game Doom & Destiny and broke into the top 100 for “Rump Shaker” on Dance Central…good times.

Stephen Haberman – Jumped on the 360 and played a couple of levels of Crimson Alliance. Such a great game! I am excited to spend some more time with it and also continue to play through Campus Legend mode on NCAA Football 2012.

Todd Schlickbernd – After two weeks of Crimson Alliance, I’m finally getting to go back and finish Deus Ex: Human Revolution which I am loving to pieces. Also picked up SkyDrift and am waiting for the online to fill out, so far I haven’t come close to losing a race but the game is new and different so that might account for that.

Damon Fillman – Although most of the staff probably thinks I’m crazy, I’m still obsessed with the multiplayer in Crysis 2. I also picked up Warhammer 40, 000: Space Marine and Dead Island so I’ve been getting my fair share of digital pugilism. Dead Island is actually quite a good game if you’re into zombie survival horror. You really can’t go wrong there.

John Carson – What haven’t I been playing? Sadly, the answer to that question this week is XBLA. I’ve recently broken out my SNES and have been playing it day and night. In the past week I’ve finished Aladdin, Goof Troop, a 100% run of Mega Man X (including the Hadouken upgrade), and have reached the Dark World in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Speaking of the Dark World, I’ve been working my way through Disgaea 4 on PS3, as well as finally finishing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for my first time EVER. Star Fox 64 3D has occupied my weekend so far, but it’s only a matter of time until I break my XBLA drought by purchasing Crimson Alliance.

Nathan Bowring – It’s been a busy week, but I’ve still had time to play some matchmaking in Halo: Reach. Also been helping my sister play Banjo-Tooie. Still fun, but those first-person parts are a pain.

Jonathan Cole – Since I’ve been cash strapped, I’ve been on a quest to complete games in my backlog. I finally beat Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood after quite a long while of playing it. I also beat Infamous, whose save was sitting at about 95% complete for the longest time. Now I’m powering through the God of War Collection, which is yet another big undertaking to conquer.

James Heiger – Finally finished Gatling Gears. I bought BloodRayne: Betrayal and it is not disapointing. Anybody up for a few matches in Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition?

Nicholas DePetris – I’ve been revisiting some old favorites. Got a 200/200 on Bastion, inched close to the 200/200 on Super Meat Boy (95% complete!), and played a ton of Halo: Reach with some buddies.

What we are playing: Week of September 4

What we are playing is a weekly column that appears each weekend. Various staff members let the world know what games had them hooked the past week and which ones they look forward to.

Steve Melton – Played through Crazy Machines Elements for review, That’s a brilliant game. I also finally knocked Beyond Good & Evil HD out of the park with my first XBLA 200/200. Other than that I went back to my favorite Need for Speed game: Most Wanted.

Perry Jackson – On the verge of finishing Deus Ex: Human Revolution but the bosses keep driving me away as they seem entirely out of place. But other than that, checked out a trial for Rock of Ages and it was pretty fun and a whole lot of Jetpack Joyride on iOS which might be my favourite iOS game of the year.

Nicholas DePetris – I played through the fun Summer Uprising platformers Speedrunner HD and Chester. The Bastion soundtrack sent me back to start a New Game + on that, and I’m slowly working my way through the Saints Row Double Pack in preparation for the third game in the series.

Ryan ReynoldsDeus Ex: Human Revolution, Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes Beta and Resistance 3 Beta. On a side note I’m psyched for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, Dead Island and Resistance 3 this week.

Nathan Bowring – Finished Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet with map completely explored and all artifacts. A very good game, highly recommend it. I also started The Baconing, which could have had better combat but is funnier than ever.

James Heiger – Currently playing through The Baconing and Gatling Gears. I am also a little over 70% of the way to accomplishing the 1 billion point challenge on the Ms. Splosion Man table in Pinball FX 2.

John Drawdy – Played a lot of Crimson Alliance this week, such a great game. I also cracked into Ugly Americans: Apocalypsegeddon & an amazing Indie Game called T.E.C. 3001.

Damon Fillman – I’ve been glued to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but I’ve been jumping between Indie darlings Train Frontier Express and Chester. So much gaming, so little time.

Jonathan Cole – Beat Deus Ex: Human Revolution…and that’s about it. Finishing a 30-hour game in a week feels like just enough gaming for this guy.

Christine Mitchell – I’ve mostly been playing Doom & Destiny for a review and I’m still
making my way through the depths of Torchlight. I’ve also been playing The Sims 3 on the side which I picked up in a sale and have found to be annoyingly addictive.

What we are playing: Week of August 7

What we are playing is a weekly column that appears each weekend. Various staff members let the world know what games had them hooked the past week and which ones they look forward to.

Steve Melton – I took a break from the 360 this week to take a trip down memory lane. In the course of three days I played through Star Trek: Voyager: Elite Force, an amazing FPS set in a captivating universe. Highly recommended. Still workin’ through Beyond Good & Evil HD as well.

John Laster – Finished my move. Honestly, I would rather have been moving mountains or slicing fruit.

Nathan Bowring – After a week of surgery and recovery (shout out to Ernesto!), I get to go back to gaming.  Playing Assassin’s Creed II, Halo: Reach, and a certain upcoming Kinect game. Kinect is never a good idea after surgery, no matter how addicting and fun.

Jonathan Cole – Like John, I’m moving out of the house and thus much of my time has been spent on getting everything together and ready to roll out. Aside from that, I’ve been busting my backlog to bits by finishing Bulletstorm, restarting Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and beginning Final Fantasy IX on my shiny new PSP Go.

John Drawdy – Played a little bit of Torchlight finally getting the full 200g out of that and have been hard at work on a secret project.

What we are playing: Week of July 31

What we are playing is a weekly column that appears each Sunday. Various staff members let the world know what games had them hooked the past week and which ones they look forward to.

John Laster - I’ve been working on a special project on an unreleased game. All I can say is Summer of Arcade looks like it will end with a bang.

Steve Melton - Tried out From Dust. Kaitlyn was right; it’s definitely a Try It.

Todd Schlickbernd - I played Bastion for about two hours, loved it, then I had to leave for another convention. Can’t wait to get back to it.

Stephen Haberman - Well, it has been a busy week on iOS, playing a lot of Swords and Soldiers and well as Zombie Gunner. Both have kept me plenty busy while on the road. I look forward to a more conventional week of gaming this week.

Perry Jackson - Been playing this one cool game but I can’t talk about it so you’ll just have to wait and see. Other than that, beat Bastion and it’s pretty great but I don’t find it as brilliant as others see it. Still totally recommend it!

Jonathan Cole - I’ve been running through much the same as the other guys here at XBLAFans as far as Summer of Arcade goes. Aside from that, I’ve still been addicted to Team Fortress 2 and trying to finish up Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit.

Damon Fillman - I went back to the amazing Torchlight and I don’t plan on stopping until I reach the level cap.  I’ve also been altering terrain in a little game called From Dust.  Who knew crafting worlds with sand and water would be this much fun?

What we are playing: Week of July 17

What we are playing is a weekly column that appears each Sunday. Various staff members let the world know what games had them hooked the past week and which ones they look forward to.

Steve Melton – This week’s been sorta quiet for me. Got into Rock Band 3 for a short jam session and played through a few levels of Trenched. Fun game — I hope they include some DLC, especially a deathmatch mode.

Ross Adams – In between bouts of Half-Minute Hero I’ve been playing through Deadly Premonition, very odd but weirdly compelling game. Also tried out the Kill Team demo, was pretty impressed but then thoroughly disappointed by no online co-op!

James Heiger – I have been playing Boulder Dash XL and Ms. Splosion Man back and forth. Can’t decide which is tougher.

Jonathan Cole – While the Uncharted 3 Beta was an enjoyable distraction, most of my time has been spent rediscovering Team Fortress 2. After at least a year of not playing the game, many of the weapons, mechanics, and maps are  really fantastic to discover for the first time. I’ve also been playing just a little bit of Killer 7 for the Idle Thumbs Game Club.

Andrew Crews – This week I’ve had the unfortunate task of re-completing MLB Bobblehead Pros with their recent DLC addition. But it’s not all bad. I’ve also been playing Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team for review and it’s been a very fun experience.

Nathan Bowring – Progressing through the desks in L.A. Noire. Also trying to do 2G1C mode in Ms. Splosion Man, but my thumbs are hating me for it. Can’t wait for the Summer of Arcade next week!

Damon Fillman – I’ve been ‘splodin while wearing a cute bow on my head.  Not much else to say in that regard.

John Laster – I’ve spent the past week with Ms. Splosion Man and refusing to cheat on the game. Though I have been spacing out playthroughs with Warhammer 40K: Kill Team. Give that one a try, it’s actually really fun.

Todd Schlickbernd – Like many others I also picked up Ms. Splosion Man and Kill Team, but have been having a lot more fun with Kill Team. I don’t know what it is, and I certainly see the brilliance and experience it from time to time of either Splosion Man game, but after a level or two I’m just not interested in going on. Not a bad game by any means, just doesn’t appeal to me. Can’t wait for Bastion and From Dust though!

What we are playing: Week of July 10

What we are playing is a weekly column that appears each Sunday. Various staff members let the world know what games had them hooked the past week and which ones they look forward to.

Andrew CrewsThis week I played and completed three XBLA games. The games were TNT Racers, MLB Bobbelhead Pros and Galaga Legions DX. One game was really good, one was average and one was pretty bad. I’ll let you guess how each one stands up.

Kaitlyn Chantry – I’m almost done with Red Dead Redemption (at last!) and I just started the”Grubbins on Ice DLC for Costume Quest. Every once in a while, I turn my attention back to ilomilo or Child of Eden… when I need a break from murdering bandits and monsters.

Ross Adams – Despite having already completed the PSP version fairly recently I just couldn’t resist Half-Minute Hero on XBLA. I’ve been neglecting many other games by playing this instead, such a wonderfully charming little game and lots of fun. Can’t get enough of the music either!

Perry Jackson – After finishing Comic Jumper, I went on a finishing spree and finished Bit.Trip.Runner and did the entire Portal 2 co-op with a friend and it’s as mind-blowing as everyone told me. I also picked up Stacking on sale this week for 600 MSP and it’s a superbly interesting title, still hard to wrap my brain around it sometimes. Now off to finish Shadows of the Damned and in desperately wait for Wednesday’s Ms. Splosion Man.

Nathan Bowring – Finally began playing L.A. Noire, and I’m loving the gameplay and the little details they put in the city. Also playing Ms. Splosion Man for review. It’s so good I almost died of over-enjoyment.

Damon Fillman – I just finished Shadows of the Damned and my smile needs a vacation, so I’m participating in the grim world of Condemned because it is still a great game.  Crysis 2 still consumes a majority of my time, though.

Jonathan Cole – The earlier part of my week was dedicated to getting all 200 gamerscore from Trenched, which was a massive success. Otherwise, I’ve been rediscovering Team Fortress 2 and trying out the Uncharted 3 Beta.

James HeigerDead Block almost defies description. It certainly is an interesting experience. Aside from that I have been busy powering myself up in Rising Mode of Hard Corps: Uprising. I can’t recomend that game enough.

Stephen Haberman – Well I am lucky enough to have a copy of (REDACTED) already and so I am playing through that. (REDACTED) IS (REDACTED)!

Zachary Lace – Just finished off Oblivion again and started Divinity 2, pretty interesting game and as always BFBC2 online.

Todd Schlickbernd – Played through most of Dead Block but other than that haven’t been sure of what to play. Some this some that. I’m thinking of picking up Child of Eden while it’s on sale, or maybe picking up some cheap used games I passed up.

John Drawdy - For the most part all I have been playing this week is Trenched trying to get that last 5 point achievement. Only other thing I spent time on was  Deadliest Warrior: Legends, which I wrote up a review for.

What we are playing: Week of July 3

What we are playing is a weekly column that appears each Sunday. Various staff members let the world know what games had them hooked the past week and which ones they look forward to.

Steve Melton – Played Lucha Fury for review. Not a bad game. If you’re a fan of brawlers pick it up when it’s 1/2 off. Also working through the indie game Shield the Beat for an upcoming review. It’s a total blast. We should have a code to give away in the future. Also picked up a few cheevos in Crazy Taxi.

Perry Jackson – Picked up Comic Jumper in the Deal of the Week sale and I’m thoroughly enjoying it after debates with the other writers. It’s got the right amount of character and style that I love with maybe a little flawed shooting but it’s still good and well worth 400 MSP. Also gonna finish up Shadows of the Damned and my rental of Duke Nukem Forever which was probably better off as vaporware.

Ben Fisher – Still playing Trenched which you can buy on XBLA for Xbox 360 Live 1600 Points (Online Game Code) and having fun with Rift

John Carson -Oh wow. What haven’t I been playing? In the past two days alone I’ve played Half-Minute Hero–something you all should play–, Bust-a-Move Live, Galaga Legions DX, Trenched, Magic 2012, Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D, and a questionable MMO called Gods and Heroes. I somehow feel that list will expand even more over the holiday weekend.

John Drawdy – Hmmm…..lets see, for the most part my week has been occupied by Trenched which is just load of fun and Backbreaker: Vengeance which I wrote a review for this week. About the only other thing I played was one game of X-Men Arcade with my 5 year; it makes me happy to know he loves the classics.

Kenneth Rufo – I’ve been playing a metric ton of Duels 2012, mostly the 2HG mode, a fair amount of Monday Night Combat, and then some sweet little Indie titles: TIC, part 1, and Lair of the Evil Doer.

James Heiger – I downloaded Hard Corps: Uprising because it was on sale. That game is hard but rewarding. I have also been spending some time with Red Dead Redemption, but it remains to be seen if I finish it.

Jonathan Cole – The whole last week of my life has almost been solely dedicated to Trenched, which has been an absolute blast. Steam’s current Summer Camp Sale has kept me enraptured, however, stealing all the money from my wallet and incentivizing some digging through the backlog for chances to win a big prize.

Nathan Bowring – Finished the final episode of the Back to the Future game, which was utterly fantastic.  Now I’m waiting to get my copy of L.A. Noire. Great Scott, I do love adventure games!

Todd Schlickbernd – I’ve been playing Half-Minute Hero after work ’cause it’s light and I’ve been coming home tired. Before that I was playing sandbags full of Trenched with intermittent spots of Borderlands and Saints Row 2. Lotta’ co-op goin’ on.

John Laster – I’m in the process of moving so my Xbox is boxed up this week. No gaming for me sadly…

Andrew Crews – I’ve finally gotten around to playing Trenched. It’s a fun game and I recommend checking it out if you haven’t already. I’ve also been playing a lot of Akane the Kunoichi on XBLIG.

Damon Fillman – I must admit, I’ve returned to the original Condemned to see if it has survived the test of time–and it has!  Also, I can’t stop looting and shooting in Trenched.  Mechs and loot?  Seriously, what is better than that?
