Deadliest Warrior Legends: Slice Mode Rewards

Deadliest Warrior Legends released this Wednesday, and while we don’t have an official review up on the site yet, we can say it is much better than the original. The entire game feels more fluid. One of the best parts to the Deadliest Warrior games is the unique weapons. Deadliest Warrior Legends pushes this to a whole new level.

Upon killing 25 enemies during a slice mode challenge (you need to have beaten arcade mode with each character to even have this option), players will be rewarded with an extra special set of weapons for each character. These range from a flute to a fish with a half dozen other random ones in between. We have the full list below:

Iron Brigade Unlock and Level Guide

The following Iron Brigade Guide is a culmination of the efforts of Ben Fisher, John Laster, Steve Melton, Todd Schlickbernd, and Zac Lace.  Special thanks goes to Double Fine for their advice and guidance.

Update: We have changed only the title of this guide to Iron Brigade. The rest of it still uses the game’s original name, “Trenched”. We have added the Rise of the Martian Bear DLC to the guide at the bottom.

Trenched released on Xbox Live Arcade on June 22, 2011, featuring a hybrid action tower defense style of gameplay and Double Fine’s unique blend of humor. If you haven’t purchased the game yet, we highly recommend checking out our Trenched review. Make sure to bookmark this page once you have downloaded the game for your go to source for all things related to Trenched.

What we are playing: Week of July 3

What we are playing is a weekly column that appears each Sunday. Various staff members let the world know what games had them hooked the past week and which ones they look forward to.

Steve Melton – Played Lucha Fury for review. Not a bad game. If you’re a fan of brawlers pick it up when it’s 1/2 off. Also working through the indie game Shield the Beat for an upcoming review. It’s a total blast. We should have a code to give away in the future. Also picked up a few cheevos in Crazy Taxi.

Perry Jackson – Picked up Comic Jumper in the Deal of the Week sale and I’m thoroughly enjoying it after debates with the other writers. It’s got the right amount of character and style that I love with maybe a little flawed shooting but it’s still good and well worth 400 MSP. Also gonna finish up Shadows of the Damned and my rental of Duke Nukem Forever which was probably better off as vaporware.

Ben Fisher – Still playing Trenched which you can buy on XBLA for Xbox 360 Live 1600 Points (Online Game Code) and having fun with Rift

John Carson -Oh wow. What haven’t I been playing? In the past two days alone I’ve played Half-Minute Hero–something you all should play–, Bust-a-Move Live, Galaga Legions DX, Trenched, Magic 2012, Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D, and a questionable MMO called Gods and Heroes. I somehow feel that list will expand even more over the holiday weekend.

John Drawdy – Hmmm…..lets see, for the most part my week has been occupied by Trenched which is just load of fun and Backbreaker: Vengeance which I wrote a review for this week. About the only other thing I played was one game of X-Men Arcade with my 5 year; it makes me happy to know he loves the classics.

Kenneth Rufo – I’ve been playing a metric ton of Duels 2012, mostly the 2HG mode, a fair amount of Monday Night Combat, and then some sweet little Indie titles: TIC, part 1, and Lair of the Evil Doer.

James Heiger – I downloaded Hard Corps: Uprising because it was on sale. That game is hard but rewarding. I have also been spending some time with Red Dead Redemption, but it remains to be seen if I finish it.

Jonathan Cole – The whole last week of my life has almost been solely dedicated to Trenched, which has been an absolute blast. Steam’s current Summer Camp Sale has kept me enraptured, however, stealing all the money from my wallet and incentivizing some digging through the backlog for chances to win a big prize.

Nathan Bowring – Finished the final episode of the Back to the Future game, which was utterly fantastic.  Now I’m waiting to get my copy of L.A. Noire. Great Scott, I do love adventure games!

Todd Schlickbernd – I’ve been playing Half-Minute Hero after work ’cause it’s light and I’ve been coming home tired. Before that I was playing sandbags full of Trenched with intermittent spots of Borderlands and Saints Row 2. Lotta’ co-op goin’ on.

John Laster – I’m in the process of moving so my Xbox is boxed up this week. No gaming for me sadly…

Andrew Crews – I’ve finally gotten around to playing Trenched. It’s a fun game and I recommend checking it out if you haven’t already. I’ve also been playing a lot of Akane the Kunoichi on XBLIG.

Damon Fillman – I must admit, I’ve returned to the original Condemned to see if it has survived the test of time–and it has!  Also, I can’t stop looting and shooting in Trenched.  Mechs and loot?  Seriously, what is better than that?

Deadliest Warrior Legends Warrior guide

Deadliest Warrior Legends will be releasing this Wednesday, July 6. The team at 345 Games has finally unveiled the entire roster of fighters that will be releasing with the game. At E3, we had the opportunity to check the game out, and we were very impressed. All of the past modes return with an all new cast of legendary warriors. There will also be a Risk-like mode included with the game, where players will be able to simulate combat, similar to how battles unfold on the Deadliest Warrior TV show. For information about each warrior, including their base weapons and unlocks click the appropriate character’s page. Let us know who your favorite is in the comments below!

XBLA’s Most Wanted: SWAT 4

Before the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon games were popular there was Police Quest, a point and click cop adventure from Sierra Entertainment. In 1999 the series changed to a first person tactical shooter with SWAT 3: Close Quarters Battle. The next in the series, SWAT 4, was released in 2005 to critical acclaim. Developer Irrational Games created an amazing experience and moved on to create the Bioshock series.

SWAT 4 follows a fictional Los Angeles SWAT team through several tactical situations. You play as the team leader, giving commands, taking down suspects, and securing evidence. It was powered by Unreal Engine 2.5, one of the most powerful for its time, and still looks strong today.

Trials HD Tuesday: Afterburner Challenge

It’s always a fun thing when track creators try to do more than just the standard racing course with challenging jumps and climbs. Afterburner Challenge by iLovePepso is a great example of thinking outside the box a bit. The focus is on using afterburners to get through the course, something that increases the challenge ten fold. Maybe it’s not the first track to do this, but there’s something especially appealing about this particular one.

Difficulty: Hard
XBLAFans’ best time: 7:23:51 (sad, we know)

To download this course you’ll need to send a friend request to the gamertag linked below. Once they have accepted the request you’ll be able to download all of their courses through the game menu. Please be courteous and thank them once you have downloaded the track, then remove them from your friends list so others can have a chance to download the track.

Xbox Live Arcade pricing: Does it need an overhaul?

These days it seems all I hear are constant complaints about pricing for Xbox Live Arcade games. It’s always too expensive. We’ve all done it — looked at a game and said “I like it, but not for 1200 MSP!” Maybe it’s the recession we’re in, maybe it’s because we just don’t have extra points to spend, and maybe we’re just stingy. Still, maybe we’re right. But here’s the thing: maybe developers and publishers are right sometimes too. So where’s the middle? Where is that happy hunting ground where companies can make a profit and players can get the escapes they want at the price they’re willing to pay?

XBLA’s Most Wanted: Back to the Future: The Game

The 80′s were a decade that truly fits the oft-repeated opening line from A Tale of Two Cities: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” On the one hand you had crimped hair, the Chevy Chevette, and leg warmers. On the other there were great bands like U2, Poison and Aerosmith. There were also a handful of truly classic movies. The Back to the Future trilogy was brought to life mostly here, with the third film being released in 1990. It’s a series that plays to so many childhood fantasies, but adaptations to other media have been, well, less than stellar. That is until Telltale Games got hold of the rights.

Back to the Future: The Game isn’t actually a game, it’s five games. In true Telltale format this point-and-click adventure game is split into episodes, much like the Sam & Max games that later were combined into one release for Xbox Live Arcade. In the game you once again live vicariously through Marty as he travels back to 1931 to rescue the jailed Doc Brown. But the changes made in 1931 skew the timeline causing Marty to travel from 1876 through 1986 — and beyond.

XBLA’s Most Wanted: Star Trek Voyager Elite Force

Franchise-based games are either hit or miss, very rarely are they in between. Maybe it’s due to high expectations, maybe it’s the developer, maybe it’s the technology used. Whatever it is players often judge franchise games harder. Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force was a game that was a hit for every reason. It had the actual cast of Voyager providing voice work. It was powered by the Quake III Arena engine, the most powerful at the time. It was developed by a team with a history, both before and after Elite Force, of making amazing games. Most of all it was true to the source material while being true as a game. It’s an amazing title, and one that could easily be given a new life on Xbox Live Arcade.
