Toronto-based studio Capybara Games are not strangers to the XBLA platform or the digital market. They’ve released the wonderful Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes and the iOS indie-darling Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP, an idiosyncratic kaleidoscope of music by Jim Guthrie and great art by Superbrothers‘ Craig Adams.

We’ve only known about one title they’re working on currently for XBLA with Super T.I.M.E. Force but in an interview promoting the Japanese release of Sworcery, they discussed they’re working on three new titles across XBLA, PSN, and Steam. Since we currently know about one game exclusive to XBLA, what could the other two games possibly be and could they be coming to XBLA?

Capy Games are known for their unique design and thought-provoking gameplay, so anything coming from this studio won’t be some tired old design you’ve seen before or a complete riff on an idea you’d think they were crazy to think of. Creative Director/Game Designer Kris Piotrowski talked about why their next titles would be coming to those platforms:

“I’m trying to figure out what would be an appropriate follow-up on iOS, definitely Capy at this point isn’t interested in making any small iOS games. We definitely will make another iOS game at some point because iOS is great and we love working in that space, but at this moment in time, the next three games we’re working on at the moment are geared toward XBLA, PSN and Steam. From my own personal standpoint, I love the controller, and I want to focus on that for a bit, and I think that PSN and XBLA are a wonderful place to release kind of ‘smaller-bigger’ independent games and just personally, I’m not a big fan of motion controls or touch controls. So when we have an idea for iOS that’s appropriate, we’ll come back to it for sure, but the next batch is definitely a little bit more… still independent and downloadable”

It’s hard to imagine how Super T.I.M.E. Force could even work with touch controls, but it works amazing wonders with a controller so it’s good to see them going in this direction. Let’s hope their upcoming titles are coming to XBLA since they will be making a stop at PAX Prime this year according to Kris. You can read my PAX East preview here and see why it’s one to look forward to hopefully this next year.
