Citing “various reasons,” publisher Bandai Namco announced today that it has chosen to end development on Aero-Cross. It was just over two years ago when the publisher announced it would remake vintage arcade game — as in coin-op arcade, not Xbox Live Arcade — Metro-Cross as Aero-Cross. With nothing but a European trademark and a teaser in Pac-Man Championship Edition DX being made public since that November 2010 announcement, it comes as little surprise that Namco Bandai has made the decision to cancel the project.

The new take on the 1985 game that had players running along a fixed path while dodging obstacles was planned as part of Bandai Namco’s “Namco Generations” series of remade titles from the publisher’s (way) back catalog. It brought Pac-Man Championship Edition DX and Galaga Legends DX to Xbox Live Arcade as part of Namco Generations, but Aero-Cross will not be joining their ranks.

Bandai Namco said it was sincerely apologetic for the inconvenience it may have caused to gamers who were anticipating the release.
