Joe Danger 2: The Movie review (XBLA)

Joe Danger 2: The Movie was developed by Hello Games and published by Microsoft Studios. It was released Sept. 14, 2012 for 1200 MSP. A copy was provided for review purposes.

Every time we go to the movies, we see the death-defying daredevil antics that stuntmen go through. Sometimes it’s as simple as crashing a car a specific way or driving an ATV across deadly terrain filled with traps and spikes. Joe Danger has seen his share of stunt-work in the past but he wasn’t ready for the biggest job of his life: his own movie.

Joe Danger 2: The Movie is the sequel to the original Joe Danger (Special Edition on XBLA) but instead of just making another motorcycle stunt-driving game, they took a much better direction. As Joe, you’ll have to go through stunts in the movie, and the script is full of variety. But we might have an Oscar-caliber XBLA game on our hands. A sequel that feels like it has more life and deserves to sit in your VHS collection with Commando and Speed.

XBLA Wednesday: September 12

In the mood for solving crime or beating up thugs for messing up your hair? XBLA Wednesday has got something for both of those appetites this week. First up, Double Dragon Neon is the throwback brawler from Majesco and WayForward. Based on the original Double Dragon but now with more 80s flair and mullets to go alongside your punches and spin kicks. It retails for 800 MSP and we’ll have a review shortly.

Rounding out today is Lexis Numerique’s Red Johnson’s Chornicles, an adventure game similar in vein of Telltale’s games but more film noir. Red Johnson is best private investigator until his brother has been abducted and you have a price on your head that you’ll need to avoid. You can grab it at 800 MSP. Whether it’s beating up in the 80′s or solving mysteries now, XBLA Wednesday has got something for you.

*EDIT*

The Russia Under Siege DLC for Dogfight 1942 was also released on Wednesday for a whopping 800 MSP.

The next big console MOBA is Guardians of Middle-Earth

Full disclosure: I’m not a huge fan of or very good at Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA’s). So the thought of playing one based on Lord of the Rings didn’t seem too appealing. But as I walked into Monolith Productions for a studio tour and finally sat down with Guardians of Middle-Earth, I was more impressed than I thought I’d be.

Guardians of Middle-Earth’s sole purpose is bringing the MOBA experience to consoles. Games like League of Legends have propelled the genre to many heights but console MOBA games are few and far between, though Monday Night Combat and Awesomeanuts (the only two I’ve played) are impressive. They’re giving a great focus with its controls and maintaining layers by finding new strategies to take on your foes.

Super Time Force’s Saturday Morning Trailer with Zackasaurus

Super Time Force was in full effect at this year’s PAX Prime and it had an explosive and hilarious new trailer to show for it. Not huge on gameplay but huge on the Saturday morning TV ethic where we see the Super Time Force make jokes and try to teach kids that trying is all that matters since you’ll eventually come back to life…only if you’re part of their force though. Check out the hilarious trailer and the reveal of one of the best new characters in gaming with Zackasaurus. It’ll have you saying KOOKABUNGA in no time.

XBLA Wednesday: September 5

As people are entering school, they might wonder what downloadable games they can get this week. Luckily for you, we got you covered this XBLA Wednesday. First up, we got the brawler Kung Fu Strike from QOOCsoft and 7sixty. There’s a war between three factions in ancient China and it’s up to you as General Loh to make it all right with your fists since they’re the best negotiation tactic. You’ll be able to fight alongside your friend in co-op or take on your friend in Versus to see who’s the real victor. The game’ll set you back 800 MSP.

If you’re looking to fly the skies in the early days of the war, Dogfight 1942 from City Interactive might be the answer you’re looking for. You’ll be able to fly tons of planes from the WWII era and win the war using your aerial moves. The game will set you back 1200 MSP. On the DLC side of things, we got the new Plants vs. Zombies table for Pinball FX 2 that was shown earlier at PAX Prime this past weekend. Whether you want to fight with your fists, with your aerial moves or with your flipper fingers, XBLA Wednesday has got something for you.

XBLA Wednesday: August 29

Do you have a thirst for zombies or possibly hungry for more rock? XBLA Wednesday has got something for both of those appetites this week. Starting off first with Harmonix’s latest entry in the Rock Band series, the downloadable Rock Band Blitz. It’s the original game built for single-controller play without the need for instruments. You play all the instruments, switching from guitar to vocals to keyboards, scoring more points for multipliers and using power-ups. Check out our review and make sure to keep an eye to our Twitter or Facebook for chances to win the game!

Last but certainly not least, we have the next episode in Telltale’s The Walking Dead with Episode 3: Long Road Ahead. Promised to be out in the middle of August, Telltale pulled through by the end with Lee, Clementine & the crew facing the dangers of staying and must move forward. Some of the things they encounter is as character-defining as it is thrilling. Our review will be up shortly but we loved the first two.

Todd’s unavailable for the show today, most likely eaten by zombies because these things happen right? Whether you’re looking for musical action or adventure horror, you’ll be set for this XBLA Wednesday.

The Walking Dead Episode 3 rises to XBLA this Wednesday

Telltale finally pulled through by the end, but certainly not the middle of August as planned. Just confirmed to IGN that we’ll be getting on the next episode of The Walking Dead entitled Long Road Ahead this Wednesday, August 29. The previous episodes were released this past April and June following a two month release window, will we get Episode 4 in October? Who’s to say by this point but at least we’ll get to play through it by the end of August. Look forward to that and Rock Band Blitz for your XBLA Wednesday, we have a show for the day too.

Scott Pilgrim online multiplayer DLC delayed until Fall

You’re not alone…well, unless you want to play online multiplayer. While Major Nelson announced in his post that we’d be getting an online multiplayer DLC with a playable Wallace for August 19 (which was weird in itself for a Sunday). But it was nowhere to be found on the marketplace, so what gives? Joystiq followed up with Ubisoft and were given a new release window of this fall. No reason why for the delay but perhaps it’ll coincide with the color version of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World coming out in October? They both have the same name so it’s a big maybe. It’s a bummer but we’ve been waiting two years for this, we can wait a little while longer.

Joe Danger 2: The Movie coming out “in the next month or so”

As you may have known, we’re pretty big fans of Joe Danger from his humble beginnings as a stunt racer in the original title to his upcoming feature-film debut with Joe Danger 2: The Movie. We’ve written about how good it is at PAX East and after Hello Games showcased their newest title at Gamescom, it was the full build they told Joystiq. So when’s it coming out? Sean Murray of Hello Games stated that the game should be out in the “next month or so. Something like that”. A possible September release even though we have so many other titles for next month. But fingers crossed since this sequel looks like the kitchen sink and more including jetpacks and unicycles since all kitchen sinks need those. We’ll let you know more about this upcoming sequel when we find out more, please tell us Hello Games!
