Terraria Console Trailer

When Minecraft meets the 2D world we get Terraria. Action, adventure and creation are the key elements to this updated version of the popular PC game. This is one of the few titles you can look at and honestly call unique. We are excited about this one simply because of how open-ended the gameplay looks. There is no release date or price yet, but it looks to be a game worth waiting for.

Skulls of the Shogun delayed until November

We had hoped that Skulls of the Shogun would be released this month alongside Windows 8. Unfortunately it looks like the release will now be sometime in mid November. This title looks like it will be worth the wait though. In our interview with developer 17 Bit Skulls of the Shogun was described this way, “It’s turn-based strategy infused with the spirit of an action or arcade game. It’s fast, no grid, with multiplayer.” We can't wait to get our hands on it.

Fez 'lost' features revealed

Fez was a huge success in our eyes. It has some of the most interesting and mind bending game mechanics we have ever seen. Recently programmer Renaud Bédard of Polytron described some of the things that didn't quite make it into the game. It turns out there were a lot of other game mechanics in the works at different points in development. Some were early versions of the mechanics we saw and others were abandoned because they just didn't work for the game as Phil Fish had envisioned. Apparently laser puzzles involving strict box placement were completely functional but they simply had no place for them in the game. "Heavy groups" involved large groups of blocks that would fall after supporting blocks were destroyed. This feature worked hand in hand with TNT crates but again, both features were dropped because they simply didn't have a place in the final game. Motor blocks were a neat idea but they were too difficult to get working properly in the hybrid 2D/3D environment. We really liked the way the 3D bridge sections looked but they gave too much of how the environment was actually constructed away. It is always interesting to see what was left out of a game as much as what made it in. With Fez it feels like the possibilities are almost endless.

Castle Crashers hits 3 Million players

The original breakout hit for XBLA, Castle Crashers, has hit a major sales milestone. Though extrapolating sales figures from XBLA leaderboards isn't an exact science, The Behemoth now has over 3 million players registered on the game's leaderboards. Actual sales are likely to be lower considering its multiplayer focus, but it's a decent yardstick nonetheless. This hack and slash adventure has long been a favorite among gamers for its awesome 2D look, tongue-in-cheek humor and serious gameplay. It is no wonder that it continues to sell so well even after being out for so long. Behemoth specifically thanks all those "knights in the making" who made this possible.

Thunder Wolves coming to XBLA

Thunder Wolves is set to come roaring onto XBLA in the first quarter of 2013. The trailer certainly gives the impression that this will be an action packed helicopter shooter and not a simulation by any means. The game will feature multiple chopper and weapon combinations. It will also have online co-op play where one player flies and the other shoots. It is being developed by Most Wanted Entertainment and will be released by Ubisoft.

Plants vs. Zombies Pinball FX 2 review (XBLA DLC)

Plants vs. Zombies for the Pinball FX 2 platform was developed by Zen Studios. It was released on September 5, 2012 for 240 MSP.

Plants vs. Zombies is the much anticipated collaboration between Pop Cap and Zen Studios. To our knowledge this is the first time a tower defense game has been converted into a pinball table. This table looks and feels relatively similar to Epic Quest. But it doesn't nearly live up to that standard or really the Pinball FX 2 name. Despite being an interesting collaboration and a great idea this table just falls short.

Plants vs Zombies Pinball coming next week

The results of the much anticipated collaboration between Zen Studios and Pop Cap have finally been revealed. Much to the surprise of many, this Pinball FX 2 table will be a part of the Plants vs. Zombies universe. This table is coming out next week and will cost 240 MSP. It looks to be another impressive creation. We can't wait to try it out.

Pinball Arcade Table Pack 3 now available

Table Pack 3 for The Pinball Arcade is now available. It features two tables: Gorgar and Monster Bash. You can see the launch trailer for these tables here. A monster theme permeates these tables to add to the fun. It seems that these table packs have one older table and one newer table. Table Pack 3 is no exception. But while older tables may have lower scores and simpler rules it doesn't make them any less fun and challenging. Check these tables out and let us know what you think.

Blood Knights priced and dated

Blood Knights is an upcoming vampire hunting hack and slash from German developer Deck 13. We now know that it will be released on October 31, 2012 and cost 1200 MSP. It has been revealed that a vampire hunter must team up with a female vampire to destroy everything in their path in order to save the world. Presently it appears this will be local co-op only with no online component. But as we have said before, this appears to be a rather ambitious title and we look forward to seeing how it turns out.

345 Games' Matt McEnerney discusses updates for Bellator: MMA Onslaught

The folks at 345 Games have big plans for their game Bellator: MMA Onslaught. There is a patch releasing very soon which promises to clean up the gameplay and address many of the issues gamers have been raising. They have taken a few moments to give us an exclusive interview about the contents of the title update and their plans for the future. It sounds like good things are happening which are far above and beyond what most developers seek to do post launch.

Loading screens hinted at more moves being added in a future update. Is that happening? Can you give us any details?

[Matt McEnerney] We’re in the process of creating more content for the game which will certainly include new moves, but also a new arena, a new style, and some more items for your created fighter. Can’t give you specifics yet, but we’re hoping to pass certification and go live before Christmas. I can confirm that the content pack will be free! Read the rest of this entry »
