The Xbox One Elite controller will feature full button mapping when it releases later this month, but Xbox gamers won’t have to shell out $150 if that one feature is the only thing drawing them to the pad. At least, not if they can wait a bit.

“It’s coming for all controllers soon,” Microsoft Director of Program Management Mike Ybarra tweeted yesterday in response to a fan question about fully customizable controls.

Sony added the feature to the PlayStation 4 through a firmware updated released earlier this year, but Microsoft apparently isn’t content to allow its rival to maintain this small competitive advantage forever. Of course, Ybarra did not give any indication of how soon “soon” is, so there’s no telling when Microsoft will roll out the feature for all Xbox One controllers.

For those who can’t wait, the Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller isn’t cheap at $150, but it does more than just allow full button mapping. It comes with paddles for the controller’s rear and allows users to physically swap the location of some buttons and sticks on the controller.
