The Behemoth is changing things up in BattleBlock Theater

Back in 2006, The Behemoth’s wildly popular XBLA game Castle Crashers was neither celebrated nor an Xbox 360 game; it was the rough and bumpy shell of itself seen in the footage above. The guys behind what was then a GameCube game weren’t satisfied with it, and so they went “back to the drawing board.”

It turned out to be savvy move. The finely tuned version of Castle Crashers that was ultimately released went on to become one of the most venerated titles on XBLA. As of the team’s last check, 2.6 million players were ranked on its leaderboards.

Why drag up all of that ancient history now? An official blog post from the team went up earlier today revealing that they are essentially doing the same thing with their next title, BattleBlock Theater (BBT). Aside from “smashing their collective brains against BBT,” the developers have also hired on a second full-time artist to help get BattleBlock up to snuff.

The game doesn’t have a release date beyond “TBA 2012,” and this sort of announcement would normally equate to gamers having a decent wait ahead of them. However, The Behemoth claims that their latest changes have allowed them to both save time and make “the game even more awesome than before.”
